We are going down late summer, driving from east coast of Canada (New Brunswick which borders on Maine). It's apparently a 28 hour drive, we may leave at 5:00pm and DH can drive through the night so kids can sleep for 10-12 hours. He'll be coming off night shifts so I'll do the driving the next day and hopefully get in 20 hrs of driving done before we have to stop for the night then hopefully another early start the next am and we'll be there late afternoon. But I just don't know well the kids will do. We have a van so we'll be comfortable, but they have never travelled longer than 3-4 hours.

We drove with my two kids last year and we were only 16 hours away. We tried leaving late so the kids would sleep but that backfired because they were too excited to sleep. By the 12th hour my mom said to find a hotel because she couldn't be in the car one moment longer.
That being said our next years trip is to Yellowstone which is 27 hours and we are talking about driving without stopping for the night. We plan on buying two dvd players and giving them zanax(just kidding) :rotfl:
I say give it a go and hopefully all things will work out well. Just be prepared to stop sooner if the kids plan a mutiny pirate:

We've never driven to WDW (22 hours scares me), but we've been on trips that were about 10-12 hours away. Best thing ever invented has been the game units that can be used in the car and the video players. We never got one complaint because the kids were either playing, watching or sleeping.
Have a great trip!

How old are your children? It takes us about 23/ hours to get to Florida. We leave around 4:00pm (pack lots of snacks). We stop for dinner around 8 or 9, then drive straight through. We have an explorer with two rows of seat, each child gets their own row. My kids are 12 and 13 now, but our first drive was 10 and 11. They love it and think of it as an adventure, especially stopping for bathroom breaks in the middle of the night. We are flying when we go on Sunday, but will drive again this summer as that will be a two week trip.

My family of 6 just drove down over Christmas from Halifax Ma. The ride should have been about 24 hours. My kids were:11(boy)10,8,3(girls). The kids did much better than I did. We left at 4pm on the way down, ate dinner in the car and stopped for bathroom only. My husband stopped once for about an hour in the wee hours of the morning to rest his eyes. The kids slept fairly well though I watched them toss and turn on their seat all night. The next day's driving seemed to take forever, but it really didn't. The next time we do this I intend on stopping for a few hours the next day instead of just driving straight. I kept telling my husband The Magic Kingdom will still be there no matter what time we arrive!!!! My kids watched tons of movies, played with their gameboys, did some simple crafts, yes and no books, read new books, car bingo when we werent on the highway, and napped. I am flying this summer, but will miss not having my car and the convenience of bringing so much stuff with ya!!!! Have fun and have patience!!!! :earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl:
