Anyone else in a long distance romance? My boyfriend lives 3 hours away and I'm seeing him christmas eve for the first time in close to 2 weeks. We hold on with e-mails and phone calls but I miss him

{{{{{HUGS}}}}

I remember those days. When DH and I were dating (17-1/2 years ago) he left to go into the Navy while I finished my senior year of high school (he had already enlisted before we met). It was 18 long months for our long distance relationship before we got married and I know how difficult it can be. I wish we had emails back then, but we had to rely on snail mail and phone calls, and since we were both so young, phone calls were not as often as we would have liked. But they say absence makes the heart grow fonder and we found that was certainly the case.

It can be hard, but the rewards are well worth it. Enjoy your Christmas with you BF, and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Not now, but I've been there. My last semester at college when I was going for my bachelors, my then-BF-now-DH was back home 4-5 hours away while I was still up at school. It was a very hard semester. :(

I actually courted my wife long-distance.

We were both in the service (Air Force) and I had travelled from California, where I was stationed to visit a friend stationed at the Air Force Academy in Colorado.

I met my wife-to-be there and we fell in love instantly.

I was only there for a week and after returning to California, we spent every spare moment on the phone. We visited a few times over the course of the next year and then she accepted my proposal of marriage, over the phone.

We'll be celebrating our 25th anniversary next year, back in Colorado. :)

DH and I were 9 hours away while we dated except one year while he was in Switzerland and I was a junior in college in Pennsylvania. We saw each other once that year. We wrote every single day and still have the letters. We've been married for 21 1/2 years.

I love hearing these stories. :)

When you said long distance romance, I was thinking of like overseas. My sister has been going with a guy for the last 2 1/2 years who lives in England. She lives here in Pennsylvania. They are planning on marrying and he is planning on moving here. He just arrived here yesterday, and will be here for the next 3 weeks. She went there in November for a week.
Crazy huh? We all like him a lot and hope everything works out.

My DW and I met on a cruise. She lived in OK and I in NY. Two long years of long distance dating until we got married and settled in NJ.

It was hard a lot of the time, but oh thoes reunions.;) ;) ;)

My SIL's sister has been dating a guy that lives in Spain for I think 4 years now. She lives in NY. He comes for extended stays, and visa versa.
My 16 year old daughter has a long distance friendship/boyfriend in Florida. It actually suits me fine, solves the dating worries here LOL.

When DH and I were dating we lived far apart (2 hours or 3-1/2hours depending on where I was) It was very hard. We finally decided that we could get married and live on what it was costing us in long distance phone calls and bus and train tickets. We've been married for over 26 years.

My dd would consider herself in a long distance relationship although it really isn't that far and she gets to see her bf every weekend. He's a soldier stationed at Ft. Campbell in TN. He's only 1 1/2 hours away. If the world situation continues unabated though I have a feeling she truely will end up in a long distance relationship. How far is Iraq?

DH and I met in med school.

He came to Iowa for residency.

I went to St. Louis.

4 1/2 hours away.

We succeeded in keeping our romance alive for the three years we were apart, during an incredibly stressful time for both of us (internship and residency).

We celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary this past September, and love each other as much as ever.

My boyfriend and I met online. He lives in Florida and works at WDW, so I can only see him when I'm there. I haven't seen him in person in 6 months, although we talk on the phone all the time. But I'll be living in FL soon. :)

I think that if you are truely in love you can overcome distance, as can be seen by all these stories. I don't know, maybe I am just a hopeless romantic and think that love conquers all....Good luck to you and I hope it works out :)

glo:We are in love and will do anything(even me missing snacks on christmas eve) to see each other.I'm making him a voucher for dinner as part of his christmas present(along with the video of Gone in Sixty Seconds (Cage/Jolie) which inspired the name of his truck).

I guess you could say the voucher is my way of being able to treat for dinner. We already have plans to see Star trek:Nemises and Two Towers on New Year's Eve if all goes as planned!

Tim and I had a long distance friendship for 4 years before we started dating and had a long distance relationship for 2 years before he moved to Kansas. As Glo said true love can overcome any distance.

I commuted from Boston to NYC every weekend for over 4 years....... plane, train, car.......you name it:) :) :). True love should know no boundaries......

Don't know if this counts as long-distance or not...

My husband shipped out (on merchant ships, not the navy) for three months at a time. Then he would be home for three months. We did this for four years. Although I did get to talk to him and email quite often, it was really hard not to be able to see him for three months.

Last month, he got a new job (on land!) and we relocated to California so he could take it. We are now living in California and are expecting our first baby!

I met my DH online and he lived about 2 hours away from me. I was a senior in high school and he would come pick me up on Fridays and I'd go home with him for the weekend and he'd bring me back on Sunday. His truck was about 4 years old when we first met and had very low milage and after we got married and bought a "family" car he had racked up thousands of miles on his truck. :)
