Long beach vs SNA?

Ok, I know it has been asked before, but until now there were no direct flights from PDX to Long beach. Jet Blue is going to start a direct flight in October. I have never flown Jet Blue and never been to Long Beach. Usually we fly Alaska into SNA.

SO, how does Long beach compare to SNA? Is it much further to DL? What do folks think of Jet blue. It is appx 100 total cheaper going with Jet Blue.

Never have used Jet Blue, but have flown into both SNA and LGB. LGB isn't that much further than SNA (maybe 4-5 miles). LGB is a very small airport and doesn't use jetways but will have you deplane by stairs (fun!).

I had good experiences at both airports, and the only difference I found was the cab fare from LGB was a bit more expensive than from SNA.

We just flew into LGB through Delta (but I like JetBlue much better!) it is very quick to get in and out of because the airport is so small. We took a taxi to and from Disneyland, it was $40 to DL and $45 back, so not bad!

I goofed once in figuring out costs, and flew us into ONT, thinking the shuttle prices would be the same from other places. I was wrong, shuttle prices were MUCH higher from ONT than other airports.

So don't just go with flight cost; look into how you would get from then to the airports, and make sure you know the total transportation cost.

As for Jet Blue, nothing major happened, but they were nasty to us on two occasions, when no nastiness was necessary. That's never happened to us with Southwest, so we'll likely not be seeking out a JB flight in the future.

Normally I fly Delta from SLC to SNA, but because of the price of JetBlue decided to give them a try last year.

If it weren't for the fact that I am using my skymiles for my trip this year, I probably would be flying JetBlue again.

I like the extra room for the legs on their planes ... and the fact they have TV's for all the seats, is an extra plus. :happytv:

SNA vs LGB: The only issue I had is that Long Beach is a bit of a smaller and older style airport. (You deplane out to the airfield instead on directly into the terminal). And the baggage claim was outside. (But it is Sunny California after all!) Long Beach also has a nice old fashioned "art deco" style. VERY California!.

As far as distance to the park, I found it was just about the same between the two airports. And it was easy to find ground transportation from either airport.

So there you have my $0.02 worth of info/opinion.

Thanks for the help, just need to price out airfare and ground transport at each, plus who has the flight times I want.

We fly JetBlue all the time in and out of LGB. It's the easiest airport to use because it is so small. You can literally walk from your car to the terminal in just a few minutes. There are also rental cars about 20 yards from the baggage claim area. We usually stay in Anaheim before and after flying from LGB because we live quite a distance from an airport. We can get to Anaheim from LGB in about 20 minutes.

I highly recommend JetBlue and LGB.

I've used both SNA and LG airports on my many trips to Disneyland. I love them both and Jet Blue is great. The one factor I use to determine which airport I'm going to use is how many people are going to be with me. If I'm alone, I fly into SNA. The shuttle is only $10.00 each way. The cost for a cab in May from LB to my hotel was $40.00 and another $55.00 back to the airport! So as you can see, if you're alone, it's much cheaper to fly into SNA unless you get a killer deal on air fare into LB. Just make sure you do your homework and figure out your ground transportation rates before you make your final decision!

I take from this that lG does not have shuttles? Only taxis?
