In October 2007 my FIL is getting married on cruise leaving Fort Lauderdale and since we will be travelling from England for this, we were trying to extend the trip to visit Disney. We all love Disneyland Paris (DD and I have been 4 times since last August, last time was returning two days ago then DH and I only are going next weekend). Probably it will be a case that we end up booking all the different components separately, but what I am not sure about is travelling from Disney to Fort Lauderdate. I cannot find any flights? Is a hire car the only option, we would not be intending on hiring a car otherwise? How long would it take by road? Or is this unrealistic?

As the cruise is going to be more expensive than we would otherwise have spent on our annual holiday, DLP is quite reasonable with annual passes and staying off site, is there any other hints as to our to make this a realistic option?

There are flights between Orlando and the Fort Lauderdale area.

I know Southwest does this route (www.southwest.com) but like other "value" airlines, they don't start booking until months before your trip not a year or so I just checked and Delta also flies this route. www.Delta.com or www.southwest.com

It sounds like you are coming from London. Based on what I have read, maybe the Virgin package tours might be affordable?

If you are not planning on renting a car I would recommend staying on Disney property. Try the All Stars and/or Pop Century. You can get free transport from the Orlando International Airport to the hotel which helps too.

It's around a 3 hour drive I think to Fort Lauderdale. Not bad at all and a daily rental may still be much cheaper then two plane tickets.

There is also train service between Fort Lauderdale and Orlando (or the Kissimmee station - closer to WDW). Fare is about $30 per adult and the trip takes about five hours.
