London / Paris Here We Come!!! 9/2 - 9/10/11

Tobi, I would check flights out of Dayton and Indy also. There might be something that hubs out of Detroit. I know that is a big jumping off spot for Continental.

OMG, for a second there, it looked like the airfare was almost $500 cheaper from Dayton! Then I saw that it had taken LHR as the "departure" for 9/10. D'oh! The LHR roundtrip has always been way cheaper.

But nope, Dayton is exactly the same price as Columbus for Continental and almost all the other airlines. So no go there. Only $50 cheaper for United, which is not worth the extra time & gas. And the drive to Indy is just way too long. I'd need to drive & stay overnight. The airfare would need to be SERIOUSLY less for me to do that.

Nope, Indy is $20 more! I think I'm doomed to pay $1455 out of Columbus! That's the cheapest right now (except for Delta, which is $14 cheaper, and SO not worth the $14!).

Arrrrgh! This is so hard. This is almost as much as last year's ticket to Spain with a side trip to Israel!

At least with the trip, it was just a "Yes" or "No" decision. One price. Not getting any cheaper. *This* is rough!

ACK!

I know. Christy shared wine with me, and I ended up not being able to share my wine with her. Although I did have a 'stunt Christy' to help me drink it, right, Christy N? I was opening my bottles in the Cove Cafe upstairs area and sharing with a DISer and her family who were not part of the podcast cruise. They just happened to be on the ship, too. I wish our timing was better!

:

It was all about right place and right time. I happened to be in the Cove Cafe trying to get warm and in walks Lori with wine...and her wine lanyard :goodvibes I did my best to stand in as "stunt Christy". I hope I did you proud, Christy H.

With tensions in Egypt at a fever pitch, it would be smart to book ASAP. Egypt controls the Suez Canal. The Suez is where most of the Middle Eastern oil comes through. There is a good possibility that the airfare costs will rise because of speculation on oil futures if the Egyptians continue with uprisings.

I didn't even think of that. I'm glad my flights are booked. I was hoping the price would come down but I just said "forget it" and booked. I'm one of those people that like to have things checked off the list and that was one that I could just take care of and not worry about any longer.

I've been obsessing over the flight, and I really just needed to buy the ticket so I can stop worrying about it.

DONE! 5 pre-nights in Winchester & London, flying home on 9/10.

What time are most people leaving who are flying out on 9/10?

I'm flying out that afternoon. I want to say my flight is at 4:15. I'm going to try to get some more time in the park that day.

I was hoping to be able to do that, but it just didn't work out. There was only one flight out that late, and the second leg didn't fly until like 16 hours later, or something.

I'm flying out at 12:25pm. Enough time for a nice breakfast with all of those not off in the Park, and then head to the airport...

Wow! You're staying in Paris for an extra 3 months?!? Cool! ;)

Good catch! That made me smile. :rotfl2:

ROFL! I had December 10th on the brain because that was when I flew to WDW for the last trip! That was funny!

I got my deposit packet in the mail today. I thought it was a nice touch that my Welcome letter was "Welcome back". I'll just need to send them back my acceptance and I'm set.

Looks like we're doing a little bike riding at Versailles, according to the overview. And we know how graceful I am on a bicycle. :rotfl2:

Good point about Egypt. I didn't think about that either.

Sayhello - did you look at United? Not any cheaper than the others I was looking at, but the connections seem reasonable. I'm still getting numbers around $1300. I was hoping to wait, but now maybe I'll just check it off the list.

Laurie

Oops! Must have skipped the last page when I was reading! Tobi, is the flight you booked United? Just asking because one I've been watching is also departing Paris at 12:25. Did you end up booking on your own or through ABD?

Laurie

Me again! I finally bit the bullet and booked our airfare. We're getting in around 7am on the 1st and leaving just after noon on the 10th. Wish I could stay a few extra days, but after 10 days with the kids, I think my parents will be ready for us to come home!

I've been looking up some info about theater in London. I'd love to catch another show in addition to the Lion King. It's amazing what you can accomplish when you are stuck at home on an "ice day". Maybe I will even finally figure out how to make a ticker and edit my signature!

Laurie

I have video!!! :rotfl2:
OK, tease! You need to post this! Come on!!!!

Hey, Laurie. Yes, I did book United. And my flight home is at 12:25. I'll PM you my info, we may be flying home on the same flight! :) :yay: It would be nice to be traveling with someone I know.
