Can anyone help me out with finding a decent rate on a hotel in London - recommended hotels, websites to use etc?

It's for 7th October for a couple of nights, anywhere within zones 1-2 of the tube would be fab.

Thanks in advance :thumbsup2

My friend recommended the site london nights as they do discounted rooms...might be worth a look.:thumbsup2

We stayed in the Novotel Euston which I think has changed its name to Novotel St Pancreas or something like that, it is right close to that station, Euston Station and King's Cross. We booked through Superbreaks which gave us a discounted rate compared to the on the door prices at the hotel but on the website they had specials that you could not cancel which were really good.

We always stay at The Strand Palace on the Strand, it's not badly priced you can say no to paying for breakfast, although breakfast is the full worksn and yummy.

The rooms have recently been redecorated.

It's graet if your planning to go to any shows, they are all within walking distance.
It has a two great bars and a carvary resturant which has a good standard of food and choice for all.

Just stayed in the Comfort Inn King's Cross last week. It was OK. Nothing special, but the rate was the best I found. It was across the street and over one block from the station. 2 room suite was L140, so a regular room would be cheaper. I did get a slightly cheaper rate by booking on the internet....I called them and they said if the internet was cheaper, to book that way. Can't remember the website though.

Thats quite a large area :) I've used the following site before with no problems and got a great rate for Jury's (a lovely hotel) in Great Russell Street (the same road as the British Museum),it's just off Tottenham Court Road, so it's very central for shopping and a few minutes walking distance for all the popular West End shows and central tourist places. Also it's only 15 minute walk from Euston (a nice walk if the weather is ok!) or carry on down the northern line to Tottenham Court Road. There are plenty of Hotels around there to suit most budgets :) http://www.london-discount-hotel.com/

We stayed at the Hilton London Metropole on Edgware Road last year, it was just a one night stay for sightseeing and a show so the location was important to us and we found it great :goodvibes They actually have rooms which sleep 4, something a lot of other hotels with similar rates didn't have. I think we paid about £200 which included a very nice full buffet breakfast, this was a weekend aswell so I imagine the weekday rates may be cheaper.

You would think so, but weekdays are usually dearer than weekends due to people booking for business trips.

Yes very true the same can be said about airport hotels!

Have you looked at Superbreaks.co.uk?
