A graduation gift for my two children graduating this year from College the other from high school is a trip to the UK. Spending time in London the end of June for some sight seeing and looking for input on hotels that are nice and as affordable as the exchange rate will allow :rotfl2:

I have been a few times for business so on the company $ :cool1: and staying near or one the strand was not an issue. My dollar this time so location is important to make the trip fun but so is the cost so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I know Arizona Rita got a good deal on the Park Plaza County Hall last year - but it was quite newly opened so maybe she got a special offer (its behind the County Hall Mariott so nice and central). If all you want the hotel for is sleeping then you could do worse than one of the chains like Holiday Inn, as they are clean and secure - no frills but not yucky! There's one near Euston which is quite convenient if you're landing at Heathrow. Do you want to be near anything particular, or just nice and central?

(The Strand is actually not so nice to stay in as its very busy and noisy).

In a similar location there is the Premier Inn County Hall:

It's in a really good location right next to the London Eye and just across the river from Houses of Parliament and Big Ben etc.
Trafalgar Square and Buckingham Palace are within walking distance too.

They do a nice buffet breakfast in the hotel and the restaraunt also does resonably priced evening meals. You can pay for a 'meal deal' that gives you breakfast and an evening meal for a set amount (£30 I think).

Hi we stayed at the Hilton at London Euston 2 years ago, it was very central, 5 mins walk from euston train tube and 10 mins walk to Kings cross/ st pancras stations. We walked straight out the hotel turned right and walked for around 30 mins and it took us to Covent garden, there was a sightseeing tour bus stop just outside the hotel too. Would stay there again no bother but would ask for a quiet room!!! ours was at front and quite noisy. Hilton are doing 50% off just now on special deals.

Thanks these suggestions I will check them out. I understand about the Strand didn't think of the noise. We are just looking for something central and easy to get around to the sites. We are flying in to Heathrow and was hoping to get a bit closer to center maybe I'll look around Paddington and we could take the Heathrow express.

Thanks for the help!!

Depends what you class as the centre - the Premier Inn County Hall will literally be only a few minutes across the river - a 5-min stroll across Westminster Bridge will drop you right at the Houses of Parliament and less than 10 mins walk to Trafalgar Square up Whitehall past Downing Street and the cenotaph. Or you can hop on the tube at Westminster Station.

Can't think of a specific hotel but check out www.laterooms.com before you commit.........We've saved lots by booking through them over the years :thumbsup2
