We took the subway from Heathrow to our hotel in downtown London. We then picked up a rental car about 1/2 mile from out hotel and drove to Dover....stopping at Leeds Castel on the way. In Dover I dropped my wife and daughter off at the ship and then my son and I went a topped off the rental car and turned the car in. The rental car place gave us a ride back to the port.
After the cruise, I took a taxi to the rental car place and went back and picked up the family at the cruise terminal. We then drove to Dover Castle and spend a couple hours there. Then we drove to Cambridge then back to Heathrow.
Aside from being a little odd driving on the right hand side of the road in a right hand drive car, there were no issues.
