London Dining for Teens

Hey everyone!

I need some help! I am taking a group of 8 teen girls to London in June. As you have noticed, the dollar is taking a beating against the pound so meals will have to be cheap. Plus they are teens.... they don't eat anything they don't already know!

Suggestions are more the welcome.

We are spending three days in London. Breakfast is provided by our lodging (Pax Lodge out near the Belsize Park Tube stop) We are doing the Tower of London (need lunchh suggestions after that one) and Madame Tussard's (need a dinner suggestion after that one) I am not sure where we will wind up for the other meals, but I figure Sandwiches and Pizza are always safe!

From your accommodation I guess you're travelling with Girl Scouts?
I'm not too sure of their exact location but there are plenty of Pizza Huts in London which do a very good value buffet lunch on Monday to Fridays. Lots of sandwich shops in the Tower of London area - the cafe at the Tower is lovely but VERY expensive so buy your lunch outside if you're on a tight budget.
I'm not so good on dinner locations my kids (11 and 14) like to eat at TGI Fridays (not near Tussauds) but it's not cheap compared to its US restaurants.

If you've got 8 teen girls I imagine you'll be around Oxford St (main shopping street in London) at least once! There's at least 1 Pizza Hut on there, the one I know is near Tottenham Court Rd Tube station, at the end heading towards the West End theatres. Whenever I've been in it's always been quiet enough to get 9 people sat together quickly but I can't speak for it all the time.

The only places I can think of that are reasonably priced and "familiar" are very dull! Subway, McDonald's and the like.

We went to Tower of London in February during the half term school holidays and thought that it terrible to find somewhere cheap for me, my friend and our kids to eat. We thought the Tower Cafe was expensive and couldn't find something for the kids so we left. We walked towards the docks and found a pub but I think we went the wrong way. Back towards the tube I think there was a subway or burger king but can't remember now. As previously said Pizza Hut do good all you can eat lunches.

I suggest for lunch do sandwiches, a good selection from marks, and any supermarket.

For dinner, there is a dining place called The Plaza which has a number of different outlets upstairs which sell food at a reasobale price, This is situated between Oxford Circus tube abd Tottenham Court rd. If u eat nr any of the tourist places u will get ripped off. Alternatively if the teens fancy a change, there are loads of good inexpensive chinese restaurants in Chinatown whis is a great place to walk around too.

My favorite sandwich chain is Pret a Manger. (www.pret.com for menu with prices/locations.) Its pre-packaged (but made fresh daily) and reasonably priced for London. They have them all over. I will be studying in London this fall...and I know where many of my meals will come from.

I also like Wagamama, which is a Japanese noodle restaurant. (www.wagamama.com.) If you open up the PDF version of the menu it has the prices on it. When I traveled to London with my high school, everyone enjoyed it. There is one right near the Tower of London as well as several others throughout London.

Pax Lodge will provide packed lunches.
If you did that then you could choose somewhere slightly nicer for dinner.

(I am taking my Girl Guides to London in October! ,We are staying overnight at ICANDO & I am trying to work out the best place for dinner!)

I'm also seconding pret and wagamama - they opened one here this week and it's like xmas has come early for me. Pizza Express is also another pizza possibility - thinner pizzas than pizza hut, but another thing I pine for! If you don't want specifically fast food, chains called Dome or Cafe Rouge also offer a mix of chicken baguettes and chips, salads and other stuff. Or try Tootsies (there's one in St Christopher's place near Selfridges) which is also burgers, fries etc.

Thanks all! My girls would not qualify as adventureous when it comes to food! So these suggestions sound great.
I may do the Pax Lodge packed lunches a few days, but I want them to at least feel like they have been in London.
(We then head to Paris for a few days and on to Our Chalet for 10 days!)
