LOL, I put my dd on a time out in her room for punching her little brother.
about an hour later she comes downstairs asking why she isn't off timeout yet!! cuz mommy forgot!!!! :lmao:

LOL! That could never happen here! My kids are yelling every 2 seconds "Can I come out now?"

Well, at least she had plenty of time to "think" about her actions.:lmao:

BTDT, felt guilty for a moment and then I was fine with it:laughing:

As for the parents whose children are yelling out to them:confused3 , personally I'd start the clock over again each and every time. If they are very young you could always use a timer so they can see time pass.

DS would sometimes fall asleep when put in time out. My rule was that you had to sit on your bed and it became apparent that often his bad behavior was due to his being exhausted but not knowing enough to settle himself down -- this is still true to this day and he'll be 19 next week.

My mom used to try time out with me and my sister. If we were fighting with each other, we both got time out because she didn't want to hear about who started it. Only we shared a room, so my mom would have us go to our beds. My sister would get her Barbies, i would get my Polly Pockets or Little Pet Shop and we would play on our beds. My mom didn't know we were playing, she thought we were being good and quiet. When we heard our mom coming, we would hide the toys under the covers.

BTDT as well.

As far as outbursts, that would start the clock over in our house. Our kids quickly learned to be quiet or they were in time out for a long, long time.

Dd has been known to fall asleep in the time out chair!! :rolleyes1

She also has put herself in time out ( when she was younger of course!) because she thought she was being bad. 9 times out of 10 a little kid ends up there because they are so tired they get wacky.

Now that we are entering "pre-teen" :scared1: I just start taking stuff away....the other day I told her I was taking her clothes away. Gotta remember to keep my sanity!!

I actually should start taking something away as punishment, instead of time out. I was just so upset she hit her brother, that I said go up to your room for time out. I haven't even had to give any time outs to anyone in a long while...LOL
she is 8 so I know she was up there playing with little pet shops, or reading.
LOL, not like its punishment to go to their room anyway with toys, games, books etc!

For my youngest, I usually have him take a seat at the kitchen table.

I just thought it was funny that she stayed up there, and actually thought she was still on time out an hour later!!!!!

BTDT!
I did that to my DS. Poor thing, I felt so bad he was little too, like 3yo!

Now when my kids are in timeout in their rooms they almost always yell, "can I get out now". I add an extra 5 min for that outburst!:thumbsup2
They never learn!;)

Oh yeah.. My poor guy was standing in the corner FOREVER.. and my husband looked at me after about 30 minutes, Babe? You gonna let him out? :lmao: :lmao:

She also has put herself in time out ( when she was younger of course!) because she thought she was being bad

DS has done this too.
"What are you doing?"
"Imma timeout cuz I frow a fit!" (usually accompanied by much crying and bashing of the floor with his fists)
"Well, ok."
:rotfl:
