LOL, no Avatar land after all?

This will not hold up the creation of Avatarland

Unfortunately.

While I do think its a huge risk to make a park that wont even open until 2 years after part 3 of a movie comes out (can you imagine a Matrix-themed land if they had signed that deal after Matrix 1, and then it didnt open until a year after Matrix 3??? DISASTER), they are going full steam ahead on this, and a lawsuit like this wont derail it. Its basically a frivolous lawsuit from someone who had an idea that was similar enough for him to try and make a money grab and hope for a HUGE out of court settlement.

Actually, I would compare this to the Jurassic Park franchise. First movie rocked and was a mega hit while the others sucked. I still enjoy the ride at US so as long as Avatar land is fun I don't think it will be a disaster. It's just hard to picture an entire Avatar land not sucking though. I'm sure they can pull off a ride or two that will be cool but if blue people, with tails, are walking around through a land; it's just going to be a joke. It will be interesting t see what they come up with...

No matter when they do it people are always going to say they got it wrong.

Do it now and its too early because it hasn't proven itself long term

Do it later and people will say that ship sailed and it should have been done earlier.

First off, That statement is useless and adds nothing to the discussion. If you are going to post something like that, at least post why you think that.

Sheesh

I was trying to find that article. You beat me to it.

How is an article any proof that it's a done deal? Have you seen any blueprints, ride designs, or any ground breaking? I for sure haven't.

The point is that AVATAR Land is not a rumor. The deal is definitely a "done deal." The agreement was announced almost immediately after the parties agreed to the contract. The news was a surprise to everyone except for those directly involved. That's why there was no Imagineering art to go with the announcements.

Nobody is saying that there's zero chance of Disney cancelling their plans for AVATAR Land. Presumably, James Cameron would get to keep the considerable sum that Disney undoubtedly paid for the worldwide theme park rights to AVATAR.

However, if someone now claims it's not going happen, the statement would have much more credibility if it included something -- anything -- to provide a reason or at least a basis for an opinion.

It would be foolhardy to think that anything disney puts out right now is a "Done Deal"

They guard their pennies now...and many of their releases are more for short term PR rather than a long term construction plan.

Universal did very well in a horrible travel economy last year with Harry Potter and Disney knew it. I'm not saying disney HAS to respond...because they are the big dog and they aren't in danger of losing their hold on the market...

But to the PR department...an announcement of something that can loosely be called "bigger" would have value to them as a counter tool. They can push it with travel agents and roll out marketing overtime to say "hey...we aren't running worn out parks into the ground...we still got it"
But that is really PR.

Because they signed a creative partnership with lightstorm...that is far from a guarantee of new capital additions in the parks. Creative partnerships are signed/ renewed all the time and often the ideas generated are shelved or bagged altogether.

The disney/ lucas deal is a good example. Granted we got star tours and some indy coasters....but beyond that there have probably been hundreds of ideas proposed that might have had support but were canned for any number of reasons.

This thing with Cameron could be the same...they have an agreement and a plan...but we know that Disney is not the "push through...damn the money, full speed ahead!" operation anymore.

Heck, they couldnt even go ahead and put in new cars/speakers on space mountain last year that were put in disneyland in 1999.

All plans are flexible because of accounting...the new reality of disney. (and by "new"...since the takeover in 1984)

The other thing that universal did that was a "gamble" by disney standards is that they rushed forward to get the harry potter area up and running when the material was still fresh.

Disney NEVER does this...they refuse to just get the thing built/ running. And i believe it is because of two reasons:
1. its cheaper for them...bigger gaps, delays, and earlier announcements takes the heat of them to do more reinvestment and construction...which obviously they are focused on moving forward
2. Giftshops...they waited years after even their most successful franchises...toy story and nemo...before they build attractions based on. That's because its about the showdump, not the show. Guaranteed revenue is all that matters.

My point was not that it will 100% happen, but that until further notice, we must consider it happening. Like it or not (and believe me. I don't) the other point i've been trying to make is that Posting something like "I don't think it will happen" with no explanation or reasoning for the statement isn't really something that needs to be post. If you don't think it will happen and you want to explain why you think that be my guest,

I guess to summarize in case that wasn't coherent,

1) As of now it is a done deal but that doesn't mean it won't fall through later

2) If you are going to post an opinion with no reasoning, IMHO don't post it.

P.S. If you think i'm being a jerk, You either must be new on the News and rumors board (or just new in general) or you haven't seen some of the absurdity of users being flamed by other users.

but that's it...i don't think you are a jerk. i think maurkice pouncey is though

but you say "if you can't support your opinion with reasoning...don't post it"

here's the thing: the fact that disney has not delivered much in the way of mainline additions in Orlando...really since Animal Kingdom...does in fact allow for anyone to doubt the validity of "avatarland" with reason.

and before..."what about fantasyland?"...think of all the dead months on the calender over the last ten years where there have been no shovels moving anywhere except on timeshare sites...

an addition every three of four years and shortening of rehabs/ renovations has allowed any of us to doubt what will happen with their avatarland grand announcement. There is a basis, inherently.

I'm not saying you can't doubt it. The real point i'm trying to get across is that if you do doubt it, tell us why you doubt it. Don't just say you do.

"I hate Avatar" If the only thing I posted on my reply is what i just put in qoutes, wouldn't you feel like that shouldn't be posted because without the reasoning of why I don't like Avatar it doesn't really add anything to the discussion? (I ranted on Avatar on one of these Avatar Threads and i'm too lazy to find it)

Was I the only one that thought avatar was okay:confused3. Don't get me wrong it's not my favorite movie and the cancellation of this project would make my day:goodvibesit just wouldn't have worked

I am glad, I hope it does not happen because I could see an AVATAR ride/section but not a land. I think it is so limiting. They should just have a magical beast themed land and then the options could be limitless and many Disney movies past and future could be represented.

First of all, the chances of that lawsuit stopping this from happening are 0.00000000001%.

2 It is limiting, but supposedly there will be an avatar 2 and 3 (much to my dismay) so that may help expand it.

3 There was going to be a mythical beast themed area, however do to budget cuts it got canned. (again, much to my dismay)
