Logistics of changing an upcoming stay

So, I have BWV booked the nights of Sept 4-8. I noticed that another resort has the same sized room available for the last two nights and I'd like to move over there to the new resort then. Point cost is exactly the same. My UY is September and this trip has been booked with 2013 points. Any leftover 2013 points, I've already banked to 2014, so my balance is at 0.

What are the steps? Can I cancel only the last two nights online or does it have to be all or nothing? I want to do that, then see the points go into my holding account, and then book the new resort right afterward.

If you call MS, they can modify the check-out date to make your reservation shorter. They can then (subject to availability) book the new reservation using the points that were returned from modifying the first one.
