Do the menues have seperate sections labeled "dieters" look here? Went to dinner last night and the menu had a section for those wanting no salt, etc - much easier to decide where to pick from. Do I need to alert the waiters? or is there a section on ea menu? And no it's not cos Im dieting -heck its a cruise - but its now a way of life for me. (Hereditary disease in the family)

imgoingtodisney,

I know I see posts from you a lot on here, so I am guessing even though you have not gotten a reply here that you have answered this. If not, here is a bump up!

I would love to know this too! I just started WW last week, and am hoping I can stay "1/2way good" during my cruise!!

There is a section of each menu titled "Lighter Fare" and you should be able to find something there. Typically it's roasted chicken breast, salmon, and some other choice I can't remember.

I don't know if you are doing a 3, 4 or 7 day, but by day 3, I'd be sick of chicken! :)

Feel free to mix and match your side dishes too. For example, in Parrot Cay last week I ordered the salmon, but wanted the potatoes that came with another dinner and the veggies that came with a third meal. It was almost like ala carte. :)

The servers are great and will answer all of your questions :)

My diet recommendation is to eat lots of desserts....especially cheesecake and chocolate hazelnut souffle.....then, prior to retiring at night, order a plate of chocolate chip cookies and pitcher of whole milk from room service....followed by a nightcap of turndown service chocolates on your pillow....

I never thought of ordering cookies by the plateful. They would go nicely with my late night hot chocolate! Only 3 weeks to go and I can try this out.

IGTD...hope you are lurking and decide to join! :grouphug:

Never notice any low fat, low salt ~
But sometimes listed on the menu in evening was a
'lighter fare' and 'vegetarian fare' and 'sugar free' desserts!!

Please just relax so you can enjoy your cruise Barb.

I just realized this wasn't a NEW post but was bumped from back in August after not receiving any replies. So maybe you're not as uptight as I thought anymore. I hope you are now relaxing as you are nearing the end of your trip planning process.

Just be careful of 'vegetarian' entrees....many times they use a cream sauce (milk is still considered vegetarian to many) and could end up being a pretty high fat, high salt meal. One culpret of this is "risotto." Although they may not make it with a chicken broth, the cream is still bad for you. Vegetarian doesn't always mean healthy (low salt or low fat).

Barb,
You have been looking forward to this cruise for such a long time now, why don't you just splurge and eat what you want!! Life is just too short not to enjoy it, and whatever hereditary diseases you may have (high cholsterol, heart disese, etc.) will not be affected by 7 days of eating a little off your diet. I am a nurse in long term care (Alzheimer's/dementia unit), and we do not put ANY of our resident's on restrictive diets, and they are not adversly affected, in fact they thrive. A woman as young as you are can eat some of what she wants for a week and not feel gulity or feel as if she will die prematurely because of it!!! Please, please enjoy your cruise. I wish I didn't have to wait until March!

There was not a separate section for low salt, but if you speak to the servers at the meal, they will be happy to quide you in the right direction.

I always have my salad dressings on the side, then dip the tines of the fork into the dressing, then pierce the greens. Seems to offer every bt as much taste, but uses a lot less dressing than pouring a small amount on the salad, or dipping the leaves into the dressing. I'm not sure how much sodium is in the dressing, but probably a good deal in some varieties.

They will cook meats plain for you...no fat or salt. They could bring whichever sauce sounded appealing from the menu on the side and you could have a bit of that with the meat. Even if wasn't a planned item...you can make your own entree!
