This may sound like a ridiculous question, but I haven't flown in well over a year, so please humor me! :D

In the past, we have always used locks on all of our checked bags. Now, my understanding is that you're no longer allowed to do this. Is that correct?? I've read a few posts regarding some sort of ties (??) that people have used in lieu of the locks, but I'm not sure what these are. Can anyone tell me what my best bet is? (Of course, I'm already planning on taking anything of significant value in our carry-on, but was just wondering if anyone still secures their checked baggage in any way?)

TIA for your help!

I purchased cable ties at Staples for a trip that I took in August and they worked out perfect. I think it was around $5-$6 for a package of assorted sizes. I brought a nail clipper with me to cut them off when I arrived at my destination. The TSA did open one of my suitcases and replaced my cable tie with one of theirs. The cable ties should be available at Home Depot or any office supply store.

I got my cable ties at the dollar store. Each package contains 3 different sizes of ties... about 20 each.:D

I've never locked my luggage, never had anything taken.

i was told by the airlines not to use any locks on suitecases, if anyone from the airline baggage staff needed to get inside my luggage they would cut the locks off and not replace them. when we flew to wdw no one went into our luggage coming home two out of 4 were opened and left a note why , nothing was taken, but my suntan lotion in a plastic bag was squirted out all over the inside of the bag and on a few things, not to bad, i guess it could have been worse. so now on the lotion goes in the carry ons.:sunny:
