Locking your stroller?

Does anyone do this? We would be LOST without our stroller. I worry that our stroller would be taken on the first day or two and we'd be carrying our 2yr the rest of the week(he won't walk for long amounts of time and loves to be carried).

I was thinking of bringing a cheap bike lock to throw through the wheels of the stroller. More of a 'slow them down' tactic, since if they really wanted it they'd find a way.

So, am I an overthinker, planner, worrier? Or do others lock their stroller as well?

Honestly, We've never locked our stroller, and it would be considered a pretty expensive one, a Peg P3. We've never had any kind of problem. If you would feel better about it, I guess you could lock it, but it seems like it would be kind of a bother to me.

I have heard of people trying to identify their stroller in a unique way, like tying a colored item to it. Or, you could try attaching something rather undesireable to it- like hanging a "dirty" diaper from it in a clear bag. Folks will likely stay away from it- and you!

I understand about being lost without your stroller. We would be lost without ours, too.

Good luck and have fun!

We used a bike lock part of the time. This still allowed the CMs enough movement if they needed to get our stroller out of the way (although we always parked where it said "Stroller Parking." We really used it in DTD because it seemed a little more "free" there and less watched over for some reason. Our stroller wasn't really expensive, but I didn't have a back up plan for a 3 month old baby in WDW. We could have drove off site to buy one if ours was stollen but that would have really bummed me out. Generally though, we didn't have to worry because it stayed safe. We were there in May and I didn't see a single stroller like ours. We bought a Cosatto from Walmart just for the trip as a back up to our good one. It worked out well. I was more worried about someone stealing our Ray Shade to be honest!

Thanks for replying.

So, amongst all the strollers are expensive ones? I have a bugaboo, but I think I'd worry too much to bring it. I wouldn't be enjoying the ride or show because I'd be worried that someone was helping themselves to our transportation.

....breathe...I'll be okay! :)

We took a lock the first time we needed a stroller at Disney, but after the first day we felt like it was just to annoying to use it.

A lot of people take expensive strollers and never have a problem. But, yeah, it would suck to have it stolen!

I have heard that CM's will cut the locks to move strollers if they need to. Many times, people "borrow" the stroller and they end up showing up. But, put something highly identifiable on it so someone doesn't accidentally take it and don't leave anything valuable in it. the other thing you could do is join a stroller swap...it might ease your fears a bit because you wouldn't lose "Your" stroller. If the swapped stroller gets stollen, you could rent one from Disney...as expensive as it may be, it is always an option if you lose your original one.

One of the most useful tips (imo) that I read on this subject was removing one wheel of your stroller and bring it with you in a bag/purse/etc. Nobody will really want to walk off with a stroller that doesn't roll.. I'd hope not anyway.

I wouldn't take a Bugaboo to WDW. I just don't trust that easily and with the economy down, I can just see people walking off with it more easily now. I love our Cosotto as a back up and it was under $100 so if it got stolen it wouldn't hurt our pockets. The wheel idea is a good one, but I would tire of replacing it quickly! Next time we go, our DS will be 2 so I plan to basically park the stroller in a section and do severl rides and attractions and then go back to it. I think that will work for us.

We took a Phil and Ted to DL and never locked it up (and saw quite a few others) and never had a problem with it.. I do agree that I wouldn't leave it in DTD anywhere..

That's what I plan on doing with the swapping stroller...getting some bright lime green tape and wrapping it around the bars or handles or something, or making it in some way identifiable should it be taken (or hopefully to deter thieves since it would be easily noticed).

I have taken a stroller 5 times and never had any trouble. We tie a bandanna around the handle bar to make it easier to find. There are some rides - safari comes to mind - where you are allowed your stroller for awhile in the line, and then the CMs take it and put it in stroller parking for you. I am sure you couldn't use a lock for those rides.

We go every year, and have had a stroller for various kids for the past eight and a half years. I have never had a stroller stolen. Of course, I also have a problem with spending a fortune on one, so I never went through such anxiety over mine ;) My husband would have lost his mind if I spent time locking and unlocking wheels every single time we parked.

Park your stroller in the correct place and then remove the back wheels, That it was I do with my Bugaboo.

Buy a license plate (the ones they make for bikes) and zip tie it to an obvious and unmoveable part of your stroller. I've taken a P3 and a Maclaren Quest to Disney and done this and never had issues.

I believe a thief will choose another stroller if they plan to steal one because it's too much trouble to try to hide/remove a secure form of identification.

I also suggest leaving inexpensive stuff IN your stroller to load it down... a thief will also avoid a stroller that has too much "stuff" in it, I think. I mean, imagine them trying to ditch all your stuff inside the park? And they would HAVE to do that if they plan on using the stroller, wouldn't they? I mean, a criminal would have to be plain stupid to steal a stroller then walk around the park with it when it could easily be identified as someone else's....

Thank you everyone!

:thumbsup2

many great tips. I think removing the wheels is an option, but I also like the license plate idea. I'll probably hang a colourful cotton bag off the handle bars(securely) with some towels in it(obviously no camera or anything else) to and find a license plate

So now you all know how to find my stroller at Disney :rotfl2:
