I'm pretty sure I read that when you book a cruise, you lock in the pricing as of that day. So if I book an ocean view room and down the line want to change to a veranda, I would get the veranda price as of the day I booked. Is the same true if I change the actual cruise date (same itinerary and ship, just a week or two earlier)? We are booking a multi-family Alaska cruise but one family is unable to commit so far in advance. If they come, they wouldn't be able to go until later in the season than I would prefer to go. Just wondering if we book for the later date and they drop out, could we move to an earlier sailing and still get the same price? I'm guessing not but thought I'd ask... Thanks!

Nope. You would pay the current rate for the new stateroom.

This change would also put you at prevailing rate.

Actually, want2seepluto is correct -- if changing stateroom category on the same cruise, as long as there is availability in the new category you will be charged the fare for that category based on the original booking date. Say I booked an oceanview last month, and next month I decide I really want a verandah -- I'll get the verandah at the price from December not the date that I make the change even if the fare has increased.

When changing cruise dates, you will pay prevailing rates. So if I booked an August cruise last month and this month decide I want to cruise in June, I will pay today's prices for that June cruise.

Enjoy your cruise!

@lanejudy is correct. If you want to change your stateroom category on the same cruise, then you pay the fare you would have paid if you had booked that room category to start. But if you change to a different sail date, then you pay the prevailing fare.

Thanks for confirming everyone! Hopefully we can all agree on a date by opening day so we get the best prices.
