Ok. New required packing item. Long (over 6") screwdriver to open locked doors. We just got back and while we were there, one of our sons locked the door to a bedroom when going to sleep the sleep of the utterly exhausted. I beat on the door until I was afraid of damaging the jamb while waiting for maintenance to show.
The first guy that showed was a useless night manager who said they needed a "special lock tool" and he would find it. Never saw him again. But the gray haired maintenance tech that showed up much later had obviously seen this before and had no problem.
The mechanism would not respond to the usual suspects of pen cartridges, coat hangers, or skewers. It had to be a long thin flat head screw driver.
