Please explain the lock-out doors to me. If children are in this room, are they able to lock out the parents whether by accident or on purpose? How does this door work? Thanks in advance!

Yes.

How does this door work? Thanks in advance!

WDW resort room doors work like just about every other hotel room where they have the latch on the frame that swings over a hook on the door. So when it's latched, the door only opens about an inch. If you were to get locked out maintenance has a tool to release the latch from outside the room. Don't ask my how I know this.

Are you referring the the interior door or the exterior door? It sounds like the exterior door and I'm wondering about the interior door connecting the one-bedroom to the studio. And I'm trying to prevent what happened to you ;).

I was referring to the exterior door. Sorry, we've never stated in a 2 bedroom lock off before.

The interior doors of a lock-off are the same as connecting doors at any hotel. There are two doors that are between the studio/2nd bedroom and the "living room" area. Each door can be locked with a dead bolt from their respective side. If the children are small, just place a rolled up towel at the top of the door near the hinge of their door. They won't be able to close it. You will still be able to close the door on the "living room" side if you want a little privacy or if you don't want to disturb them.

Yes, a child could lock you out of the room. The same way a guest that stayed in that room would if they weren't a part of your party. And vice versa. You'd want it no other way, I'm afraid to say, as you'd never want strangers to be able to enter your room.

You may be able to devise something to cover the latch during your stay, so the children can't accidentally latch the door (maybe bring tape or something?)

If the door does get locked, won't you be able to go though the exterior door of that unit with your MB? I don't know, just thinking out loud.

Now if they locked both doors, I have no idea what to do.

The your MB should work on both exterior doors when it's a lockout. But if you're like me, you put the door buckle on when you're in the room. I would definitely have it on when we're all asleep.

I was thinking we'd have the buckle on 100% of the time for the kid's door to the exterior.

I would think something like this would prevent it from latching and thus locking. You'd just have to trust your kids won't remove it.

ETA: Link not working. Google "door latch cover"
