Do you lock your luggage with those special TSA locks? (The ones with the TSA symbol on them so that they know it's a lock they can open with a master)

I hate travelling without my luggage locked...not so much because I think somebody will steal something but more that somebody will stick something into my luggage. So we bought a bunch of those special TSA locks that the TSA website said were ok.

However, when I was at LAX last year, I watched as a security guy was about to cut my special TSA lock off with bolt cutters because they had LOST their master key. At the last minute, he saw us watching and asked if this was our luggage and did we have the key. Phew.....but if they can do that at LAX, they can do that at any airport. Made me a bit angry.

So...we're going to lock our luggage going down to Orlando. Has anybody else used those locks?

I just use ZIP-TIES That way I know if someone went into my bag and TSA can just cut them off .Just remember to put a cutter in an unlocked pocket and more for the return trip.

::yes::
We used cable ties too, works great...I kept a "baby nail clipper" in the outside pocket of the suitcases (no files on those).

HTH!

Cable ties for sure! And I throw some extras into my carryon so that if we get to WDW and our room isn't ready, I can use them to "lock" my bags before leaving them with Bell Services.

They let you take the cable ties in the carry-on? And before somebody asks...why not LOL, cable ties are often used to restrain people...cheap handcuffs.

I know people who couldn't bring their duct tape (what's more Canadian than duct tape??) in their carry-on because they could be used to tie people up...and this was before 9-11.

Overzealous security??

The cable ties I use aren't big enough to be used as handcuffs. They are only about 2-3 inches long. There is no way they could go around someone's wrist (except maybe a baby). There are lots of sizes and widths when it comes to cable ties. If security cuts your cable tie off they replace it with a cable tie of their own (at least that is what I observed in Orlando in Feb. 2005). Another option would be to put extras in the outside pocket of your suitcase.
