Hi

Usually when we stay on site I just take whatever they give us and so far so good.

This year however, we are travelling with 2 other familes so I was going to ring up and request we're in the same building so we can ensure we're at the same bus stop

As I'm having to phone OKW I thought I might as well make a request to be near the quiet pool and snack bar so we can make use of the refillable mugs and laundrette. I think they call this turtle pond?

If anyone has stayed there can they let me know what it was like and if they thought this was a good location and which building to request

The other option is Millers road but am I right in thinking there isn't a snack station near that pool.

Which of these areas is nearer to HH i.e. if Millers road is pretty close we could call there to fill our drinks.

Many thanks

We like 28 but thats not near any of them, last year we stayed at 33 last year and i wasnt so keenas too far to walk to main building and didnt like the snack bar much

We stayed in building 18 this year and have requested it again for next April.

It's within easy walking distance from the main building, Millers Rd bus stop is the 2nd to last stop when heading out to the parks and the location is nice and quiet with a small pool right next door.

The drinks/snacks station wasn't an issue for us, but if that's important to you then Millers may not be the best location.

We used to love the Turtle Pond location, which is what I think you mean. The snack bar doesn't stock a lot of things, like it used to, but you can still get drinks and nibbles, cookies, etc.

We stayed in the Turtle Pond area last year and loved it. We didn't spend a lot of time at HH, so the distance wasn't an issue. It was only a 10-15 minute walk. DH walked there for provisions now and again but you could even catch the bus there if you felt lazy ;) The quiet pool was great for the kids and we spent a lot of time there, relaxing. The snack place is fine for drinks and icecreams but it seemed a waste of a counter service credit to eat there.

I thought OKW was ideal in every way. It was pretty and tranquil. I would stay in the same area again without a moment's hesitation.:)

We've stayed turtle pond 2 times and loved it - blocks 42 and 43.

Pool is lovely- great for kids as spacious but not too deep. There is a playpark, launderette and the snack bar which is handy for drink refills.

Recommended it to my friend who also loved this location in May.

I requested Turtle Pond this time to be near the pool with snack bar and needed a ground floor room for DH, added that he is disabled following a stroke but he would be ok in a normal room as long as it was ground floor for his mobility scooter. On arrival on 25th Aug this year we had been allocated area 39 second floor. I explained my original request to the man on the desk and after a while of him looking into it we were allocated room 2016 on Millers Road, which was an accessible room with large walk in shower and no bath. Our room was next to the pool and laundry room so very handy, it was also just over the road to the bus stop. The walk to HH wasn't too far at all, maybe 5 mins, and as we had a drive down to Turtle Pond we realised how much further that was. We didn't miss the snack bar at the pool as a few times we went in in the evening and the snack bar closes around 5pm I believe. I'd definitely stay at okw again and wouldn't mind staying in the same area again.

We are currently in building 38 we prefer being this end as in a 1 bedroom and wanted dual entrance to bathroom (30+). We were bit worried about road noise at 1st, as had read the road behind (one that goes to DTD) would be noisy. It hasn't been. We love using Turtle Pond Pool as we tend to hit the parks 1st thing & then return for an afternoon break before heading out again. So used snack bar to refill drinks quite a bit,but not eaten there. It's a good 10 min walk from HH house where we are though, which is OK in the evening but too hot during the day to walk it. We have used pool at HH a couple of times, walked up ( you can catch any bus as they stop at HH last). They run an internal shuttle too, to get back, not sure how frequent but not waited long.

Any other questions re OKW feel free to ask and I'll try & answer. it's a fantastic resort by the way, we love it, so relaxed, if your driving loads of parking so your car is near your villa. If not driving buses on the whole have been fine, seem more frequent than at other hotels (waited ages for buses from Boardwalk & AKL)

Hi, we're looking for a room where the sun is shinning onto the balcony for most of the day so has anyone who stayed or staying in a 1-bed had both the sunrise and the sunset on their balcony.

Many thanks and to those there now have a wonderful time and can't wait to get back there.

You will want a south facing balcony - the best you can do is just request buildings that are mainly south facing. The balconies are the opposite side to the road. Here's a map

Can you get hot chocolate refills for your refillable mugs at the snack bar at the turtle pond?

We requested a certain area but they couldn't accommodate. But they gave us free upgrade to villa instead!

We stayed in building 44 in May in the Turtle Pond area. We didn't get much use of our mugs because we thought the location was really not that super for refills. There is a snack bar at the pool there but it only operated like 11-5 when we were there so we were never there when we could actually get a drink other than 1 or 2 days.

That being said that was better than South Point or Millers Road that didn't even have a snack bar. There were some buildings in Peninsular Road that were not far from the HH, I don't know if they were the premium rooms or not but they would be the most convenient for refills beyond paying for a premium room.

We really liked OKW, the resort is lovely, the rooms are large. The only negative for us was that the mugs were pretty much useless for us, we ended up going to the store & buying drinks to put in the fridge.

I have been told by a few people now that Old Turtle Road is the one to go for, but the more I look, the more I think I'd like to be near HH as I believe you are less limited to the times you can get drinks refills and snacks. I could be wrong on this though, so please someone correct me if this is the case. I just think between 11 - 5 we are probably going to be in the parks or in bed having a nap!

I'm thinking Peninsula Road but it would have to be a building which is slightly set back from the road, some of them (again just been told, as haven't visited) are quite near the main route through the resort and I've heard complaints about bus noise in particular.

I have read a lot of people say they've requested certain locations or room set ups and not had their request honoured. While I know it is just a request, the lady above who asked for accessibility reasons really shouldn't have had to sort it out once booking in :(. It makes you wonder how much they actually read the requests doesn't it :confused3.

We are now thinking of asking for a 'lock off' two bedroom villa as it will no doubt be cheaper than 2 x 1 bed villas or 1 bed and a studio. This would suit us but I'm very worried we don't get this and end up with a normal 2 bed villa. Are there actually any of these in OKW or do all 2 beds have the lock off (I have read this on another site but always seek clarification here :thumbsup2).

I believe there are 274 dedicated 2-bedrooms and these only have one front door entrance.

There's also 230 lock-off 2-bedrooms and all of those can be booked separately as a 1-bedroom and a studio.

There are no dedicated studios or dedicated 1-beds.

Requests unfortunately are just that - I am not sure whether they read them or not at OKW however I have always been able to move to something I am happy with on check in.

Sorry to butt in on OPs question!

But where would you suggest would be best to request for a couple in there 50s want to be near a quiet pool and a bus stop if possible??

I've never been to the resort but want to pop in a request for mum and dad :)

The quiet pools are at Turtle Pond, South Point & Millers Road. All three have bus stops too.

Turtle pond is a nice area as the buildings don't overlook the pool as much so feels more open.

I would probably request near quiet pool with Golf course view.

Golf course views can make for good entertainment!
