Hey all! Does anyone know the location of the DVC cabins at Fort Wilderness? Thanks!!!

I think even though all the cabins have been or will soon be replaced, only one loop is currently bookable with points, and the loop that you book with points is not close to amenities. The rest are still in cash inventory - and based upon how quickly the points are selling, that isn't going to change for quite a while.

DVC is allowed to place reservations in any unit, not just the ones that are declared. However, they aren't obligated to allow points-based reservations beyond the fraction that is declared for any given night. I suspect one can request a specific loop even if that loop is not yet declared, though as always requests are not guaranteed.

What would be a good loop to request? We’ve never been before so no clue as to where would be a convenient location.

Depends on what you want to be convenient to. If you rent a golf cart, location doesn't matter much as you can hop in the cart to get anywhere, and ride the cart to the boat docks or main bus pickup.

If you don't have a cart, and don't want to walk as much, you may want to pick one of the last 5 or first 5 cabin numbers in a given loop, which will put you close to the bus stops (though also closer to the main road, so you may hear more noise).

If you want to be close to the pool and laundry machines, 2700 and 2500 loops are on either side and closest to walk. Again, consider that if you're in the back of 2700 loop, it's a long walk just out of the loop, so you could technically be closer to the pool over in 2300 loop if you're right near the main road.

None of the loops are close to things like store, main pools, boat docks, etc. For those, you either take a bus, or again if you have a golf cart, no problem.

For walking to the main bus stop to head to the theme parks, 2800 loop is the shortest walk - you can always take the internal bus there, but some people like to walk.

2500 was the request to be close to the pool it seemed. The whole resort though really relies on you having a golf cart I felt when we looked at it.

I thought the 2800 loop looks like it’s only close to the outpost depot. I thought that only goes to the water parks and to Disney Springs. So you can get on the bus there to go to the theme parks as well?

Thanks - this map is much easier to read! Do you have to take the road to the bus stop or can you take a shortcut through the yards? Also, how will I know if I need to reserve a golf cart if I don’t know my room ahead of time?

No you can't walk through "yards" they are campsites. You only need your reservation confirmation to reserve a cart, you will most likely not need a cart

The Outpost depot is the 'main' bus stop to go most places and parks...MK is the exception - though when I stay at Ft Wilderness I never use a bus to go to MK anyway, as I much prefer the boat.

There's definitely no cut-throughs from the loops - the area outside of the cabins is forest and generally not to be used. Though technically, if you pushed through the brush behind the cabins that are closest to the horse trail, you could walk that way to the Outpost - if you didn't get caught - it's supposed to be for the horses only - you'd be trying your luck. It's not a bad walk from 2800 to the Outpost bus stop - about 1/3 mile.

You can rent the carts ahead of time as long as you have a reservation...no cabin number needed. When you get there, you can pick up the cart by the Outpost after 1pm and return it by 11am on the last day.
