Local telephone calls

We will be staying at POP and our friends will be staying at POR. Will I be able to telephone her from our in-room phone, or will I be charged for a local call? And what is the current charge for a local call from a disney resort?

I think local calls are free but I can't be sure of that because I didn't use the room phone. Unless you have an out of this country cell phone which would incur you enormous roaming charges why not just use your own cell phone and KNOW it is going to cost you anything? EVERYBODY has a cell phone nowadays. I am surprised hotel rooms even have phones any more.

No guarantees, but my memory is that site-to-site calls (as distinct from calls within a given resort), even within WDW, were billed as local calls. However, I was able to avoid this by calling the operator and asking to be connected to room XYZ at resort ABC.

Seemed a bit convoluted at the time, and it would not surprise me to learn that the phone system no loner operates that way.

Resort to resort calls are free, just dial 0 and ask.
The last time I used the phone for a local call at a Disney Resort, I recall it was free, but it has been a few years since I picked up a Disney hotel phone.
I don't even have a land line phone anymore at my house

Yes, this. Our friends are from Australia. I might just give her one of my kid's cell phones to use for the duration. That will leave us short a phone, but we can manage. I guess I will inquire once I get there if resort to resort calls are free.

The calls are free, but you have to dial the Disney operator to be connected. They will ask the Resort name, room number, and name of guest, and then they will connect you.
