Local Station Bans Dixie Chicks!

WillyJ,

Don't you mean send them flowers? I don't know you to agree with the President much.;)

Willy, as I said before, nope - there is no list.

Everyone's free to make up their own mind.

If people decide not to buy entertainment from various celebrities, based on those celebrities voicing their personal political opinions, why should that be a problem for anyone?

I am sure it works both ways.

Have you read the letter Charlie Daniels wrote entitled "An Open Letter to the Hollywood Bunch"?

It's very straightforward and full of contempt for the anti-war crowd.

If those who are anti-war are going to boycott Charlie Daniels and try to force his songs off the radio, because they don't like his message, they're welcome to do that.

I dont think it would have been as bad if they had made this remark while they were IN the United States. But I feel that when you are a celebrity and you are in another country you are representing the US in a way. They totally blew it!! I hope they lose alot of money over this and then maybe next time they will think twice before opening their mouths just because they have free speech. I believe everyone is entitled to their right of freedom speach, but there is a time and place for everything.

As far as the list; I just feel like if I personally am going to boycott anyone for disagreeing with Bush's policy, it wouldn't be fair unless I boycott everyone and every product from every country that does. . .

And who says, as consumers, we have to be fair?

If I buy Tommy Hilfiger tomorrow, does that mean I have to buy Ralph Lauren the next day, to be fair?

I think she was overseas and thought this was a cool thing to say to get the audience behind them. She is wrong. I agree that we have a right to exprees our free speech but when times are tough the way they are now you have to choose your sides. You are either with the US or against the US and the US is led by President Bush. Never in a time of crisis do you show your disloyalty to your Commander in Chief. I am a veteran having been through the first Gulf War and I totally support this President, I think he has done a great job. This is the dumbest statement made by a country music star. The country music fan base is probably the most patriotic of any. I think this cost them untold millions. I say its time for them to retire. I am glad the radios pulled their music.

No Bet. . but if both criticized Bush would you boycott Tommy Hilfiger and still buy Ralph Lauren?

If people are going to call for boycotts of entertainers and countrie's products based on their leaders disagreeing with President Bush on this one situation, then I'd be interested in knowing just what that all entails. . .

And if the big problem is that Natalie Maines made her comment on foriegn soil, then I'm assuming Martin Sheen, George Clooney, etc are okay because they made their comments here in Amercia. . . right? :)

If I found I could "take or leave" Hilfiger but couldn't do without Ralph, no matter what he said, then yeah, I'd be free to be "unfair" and buy whatever I wanted, for whatever reason I wanted.

Again, it's the consumer's choice. If a celebrity or entertainer opens their mouth about something that has absolutely ZERO relevence to their talent, then I have no sympathy for that entertainer if the consumer then wants to boycott them for their opinions.

Well I'm not going to Boycott anyone. In fact, I'm going to take another pain pill and watch Susan Sarandon in Moonlight Mile. I just don't listen to her (or a number of others) when they talk politics and I won't watch a play or movie starring George W or Teddy Kennedy.:o

Have a good night!:p

Good.

I really liked the Dixie Chicks, past tense.Lik-ED.See ya' later girls.

I agree with Cati. It's not the fact that she disagrees with the President, it's the way she went about it in England. I didn't listen to the Dixie Chicks before so boycotting them isn't an issue for me. I do believe in freedom of speech but I think there is a time and place. A concert in England is not the time or the place. I think she was trying to kiss up to her audience!

There you go! I agree! :p Except, good morning everyone. :p

Actually, Willy J., I wouldn't be quite as taken back if Natalie Maines had made her remarks in our country. I think she was just trying to jump on the bleeding heart liberal celebrity bandwagon and curry favor with the Brits. I don't think it's acceptable to use her celebrity status as a platform to bash our President abroad. I'm all for her right to express herself, and I don't think anyone's saying she doesn't have that right. But whether she should have epressed her thoughts in that manner and in that forum is another story. It was poor judgement, and now she's paying the price. Boo hoo for her.

I'm tired of celebrities using their fame to promote their own politics. If they want to be involved in politics, then they should work in politics. Otherwise, they should just shut up and entertain us. They just seem to have this inflated opinion of the importance of their own opinions, and most of them are woefully uninformed. So, they just end up making themselves look stupid.

By the way, I don't really have a problem with Martin Sheen even though I don't agree with his views. He's very sincere and committed to his political views, and he's been expressing them in a respectful manner for years and years. He lives by his moral standards, and I can respect that. I'm just sick of this juvenile Hollywood bandwagon crap. It's well-known that any celebrity with conservative views is reluctant to go public with them because they fear rejection by their peers in Hollywood. Hmmm...speaking of McCarthyism....

It's bad enough that entertainers like the Dixie Chicks feel they have to make snide comments about the President just to get cheap applause fraom an audience that already likes them. But the reaction of some of these radio stations has NOTHING to do with political views or patriotism. It's a stunt designed to draw attention and boost ratings. Look at me, I'm so patriotic, America Rules, down with the Dixie Chicks! Whatever.

Hey Joe - Don't knock HGTV. CNN is more full of "fertilizer" than HGTV!! :p :p
