So now the Disney Stores on the other side of the Pond are going to do the same, starting Monday, and the bags will almost be identical, except that the other side will say
shopDisney, and both sides will have additional logos below it advertising Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars, instead of "Continue the story at ShopDisney.com", and there'll (I think) be three sizes instead of just two, which I hope means there'll be a new jumbo size to address criticisms that the largest reusable bag is too narrow for some products.
However, in the UK, the charge is going to be much lower than the US: 25p (33c) vs 99c, and part of it is going to be apportioned to good causes, which is making me wonder why the US Disney Stores opted for a higher charge, and also, why they decided to profit completely from them and not support a charity. Though I still have concerns over the material, and with the lower price, as much as it's fairer, people will still keep buying them and not bothering to bring them back every time, which is already a problem with the supermarkets' reusable plastic bags here.
Only time will tell if that's true or not, but our bag tax has at least resulted in more prudent usage, and of course, still retaining the democracy of choice.
