Local case settled today. Jist of it is. Father catches neighbor sexually assualting his 7 year old daughter. Father grabs metal lamp and beats man assaulting his daughter to death. Father is tried for murder and is aquitted based on temporary insanity. Good for the courts for getting one right. I could easily see myself doing the same thing this man did if I was in the same situation.

Hopefully I would stop before killing the guy (only because I would want him to feel the pain for a bit longer), but I can't say I would not do something along the same lines. Wouldn't this also some what fall under self defense or the defense of your child.

Good ruling by the court. I could see the father having so much rage (yes temporary insanity) that he would keep hitting the pervert until he was dead. Glad to see one more pervert permanently removed from society.

I could see myself getting that crazy if it were my child - but I would much prefer the offender spend LIFE in jail - I would prefer he live and pay the price, but not be set free to ever do this again - especially if the rumors of what happen to child offenders there are true!!!! Of course i realize I am dreaming because thye do not really get life.

But what if the was the one in VT and only got 60 days?

Good call by the courts!!!

Glad he took care of the loser as I doubt he would spend "life" in jail for what he did. Look at the headlines here in Vermont, loser man sexually molested a little girl for 4 years, admitted it, and is only sentenced to 60 days in jail :sad1: I'm hoping this verdict will be overturned but my point is, I'm glad this father took care of the jerk and just got rid of him.

The bad thing about dirtbags living their life in jail is that we, taxpayers, have to pay for it. Dirtbags get great health care, three meals a day, exercise, and probably a lot more. I've always heard child sex offenders get tortured in jail too, but I'd rather just get it over with and the have the low lifes die. Then there is not a chance they can get out and hurt another child. JMO!

Without a doubt , I could see myself doing that also!
Kudos to the court for finally make a good call :cool1:

cruiserkaren: all good points! I don't have any answers - those were just my personal musings - and again I know I was just dreaming - as they do not actually go away for life! The other reality is that the courts rarely make this kind of decision - I wouldn't want to be in jail while my child ewas left to deal with this.

mickeyfan2: as I said - I was just dreamimg of a more perfect situation! :sunny:

Do you actually know the reason behind the 60 day sentance? The reason the judge felt that was the best choice ???

Actually there is a huge thread on this and I would rather not dig up a can of worms.

oh I see, just figured you must know something since you made a comment about it. Being from Vermont I do know why the judge chose this....but most people just read the "he only gave the guy 60 days" without knowing how our prison system works here...

Perhaps the assaulter was acting under temporary insanity too. He got a death sentence. I don't see why the man who MURDERED him should be let off scott free.

With regard to the case in Vt. Wouldn't it be nice if the parent of the child jumped across the rail, and starting beating that defendant. Words I would love to hear would be the bailiff saying; "I will give you five minutes to stop that"!
Five minutes should be enough. ;)

What would you do if it was your child, pat him on the back and say lets get you some help! Geez!

Please. I totally agree that he should be punished - but not with death. But my point was that the man's KILLER should have been punished. He could have stopped beating the man before he died. He WANTED to KILL him. That isn't justified no matter what, IMHO. But I guess, with the tables turned, you're suggesting that we pat HIM on the back and say let's get you some help. He's a MURDERER.

Here in Texas it is legal to shoot someone for trying to break into your home or cars, etc, as long as they are on your property. I'd say this situation should allow the same force or more, since it is a child, not property. I say, good for the dad!

I'm sorry, but thats not murder. Thats protecting your child. It really irritates the mess out of me when I hear people saying stuff like the father is a murderer. And no one is patting him on the back. He and his daughter have to live with that the rest of their lives. At the very least, I know there is 1 less child molester out there preying on our children.

I don't think he got off scott free. This man is going to have to live with the fact that he took someones life, and he's going to have to care for his child who from the age of 7 will have to live with the memories of what has happened to her. This is a horrific event for all involved. But I have to say that if it were my child, I believe I would do the same thing.
