I understand that Jim, aka Psiklops, is working on a solution so that we can use a Countdown Timer on the boards. Until that is resolved and even after, we can have a work around for personal use outside of the Dis.
You can make a local copy of the Cruise Countdown that would work on your computer without being in the signature line of a thread on the Dis Boards.
It would be a single page and you could have it on your desktop and then open it when you want to see the countdown.
Here are the instructions for making it:
You can use Psiklops' Countdown Clock in a stand alone mode on your desktop in addition to in your signature or a post on the Dis Boards by using these instructions:
I copied Jim's instructions and put them in the second post in this thread where he displayed the code for us.
Do a Copy command of the code so that it's in your computer's Clipboard Buffer.
Minimize this window and go to an empty area on your Desktop.
Do a right click on an area that doesn't have an icon or Toolbar and select 'New' and then 'Text Document'.
Give the new Text Document a meaningful name, such as 'My DCL Cruise' (or whatever you'd like) and be sure to keep the '.txt' suffix on the end of it. Using my example, the name would now be 'My DCL Cruise.txt', without the quotes of course.
Double Click the new icon and when it opens, make it full screen. Then from the Edit Menu, do a Paste command so that Psiklops' code is pasted into your text document. Make sure that you go to the 'Edit' option on the Menu Bar and that you have a checkmark beside the 'Word Wrap' option. Adjust the date for your particular cruise, then Save it. Then close out of it.
Now right click on the icon you just created and choose 'Rename' from the options shown. Keep the same name that you just created but change the suffix to be 'html' instead of 'txt' and press enter. Using my example, the name would now be 'My DCL Cruise.html', again without the quotes. You'll get a dialog box about 'If you change a filename extension, the file may become unusable. Are you sure you want to change it?'. Click on the Yes or the OK, and then the icon will change to that of your Internet Explorer.
Now just Double Click on the new icon and it will show your Cruise Countdown on your desktop, and best of all, you do not need to have your Internet Connection established to use it.
If you have to make further changes to it, like to change the date, just double click to open it and then click on 'View' and then 'Source' and you're back in the Notepad again. Make your changes and then Save it. When you want to see the changes, press the F5 key or the Refresh, or close it and then reopen it.
Again, my compliments to Psiklops, great job!
Hope my instructions are easy to follow.

when I double click the icon, just the notepad with the word CODE twice in the brackets (if I copy it directly, it's actually inserting the empty code box into this post LOL) pops up. Hummm. I had previously been succesful with the countdown on signature using the same code. Should I have re-copied it from the other thread instead of using what I still had a copy of from the signature?
. It still takes up more space on the desktop than I was hoping for, however. I minimize the Internet Explorer window but still, is there a way for just the timer to show? Even when I use Internet Explorer for my browser, (which I usually don't) it pops up as a separate screen? No biggie, just wondering if there was still an improvement I could shoot for.
