Lobster

Love, Love, Love lobster! Don't touch the green stuff...eww! My Dad eats it though. I could never figure out what exactly it was.
I've also had a lobster with the orange eggs...kind of ruins the whole thing for me eating an expectant mom. Last time DH swtiched with me and I ate his...he just cleaned out the eggs and dug in.

Love lobster with drawn butter but no tomalley. We're going to CT next month and I can't wait to have fresh lobster every day!:D

Have a great week,
Lois

I don't eat lobster. Tried it once & didn't really like it.

Penny 2 we have a similar story. Growing up we went to Boston one time on a family vacation. My parents had had lobster tails before somewhere so they said Boston have to have whole lobster. I was just a kid and that sounded terrible to me so I think I had a steak. I got to pick out the lobster for them. they brought them cooked to the table and set it down with the black beady eyes looking at my mother and she couldn't eat it. She doesn't like her food looking at her. I think my dad ate his and I enjoyed my meal. She even made them take it away. She ate her potato and salad and that was it I migh t have shared. I have since as an adult eaten and even cooked lobsters and they are really more trouble than they are worth but the green stuff looks nasty.

The green stuff is the lobster's liver. I find it pretty tasteless, so I don't indulge. I don't make any effort, though, to wipe it off any of the meat with which it might come in contact. Supposedly, the female lobsters (the ones with the eggs) are sweeter than their male counterparts. The eggs, I think, are pretty waxy tasting. My DH only wants male lobsters. To me, it doesn't matter.

I never ate anything but the tail and claws until I met DH and he showed me the proper way to eat a lobster. There's not much but shells left when we have lobster at my house. I don't, however, eat the green stuff, but DH does. So we pass all the bodies to him. I do eat the red roe, though, and it's actually quite good. Yum--I can't wait to eat lobster now!

If you don't eat the bodies try this:
Save all of the shells, the green stuff the bodies etc. Pick out any meat you can find out of the bodies and set it aside. Melt 4 tablespoons of butter (you can use the leftover butter too!) in a stock pot. Crush the shells up as much as you can and throw them in the pot with the green stuff, the orange stuff, the juices and any other leftover bits.
saute on low heat stirring occaisionally. when the juices have evaporated throw in a 1/4 cup of brandy or whiskey and flame it.
When the flames die down pour in a quart of whole milk and simmer gently for an hour or two, DON'T let it boil!!
Strain out the shells, throw the meat that you set aside in and refrigerate it overnite.
Delicious lobster stew!!

There, now you've gone and done it. First time I ever drooled on my keyboard.

Thanks Alex,
i'll be trying that next time we have lobster....when it's back down under $4 a pound!!! LOL..the joy of New England!

I love lobster, but only eat the "white meat" parts. Don't eat the tomalley or the eggs - but my DH eats virtually the whole thing except for the shell, lol!

Actually, it isn't all that safe to eat the tomalley because of environmental contaminants. Since the tomalley is the liver and pancreas, all the yuckies (inc. mercury) get filtered through it. The state of Maine gives the following guidelines for eating tomalley:

"LOBSTER TOMALLEY: Pregnant women, nursing mothers, and women who may become pregnant should NOT EAT tomalley (the green substance found in the body of the lobster). All others should limit consumption of lobster tomalley to 1 meal per month."

I will eat lobster in any way, shape, or form.
I will eat the green stuff
I will eat the orange stuff
I will eat it boiled,
I will eat it broiled
I will eat it in a car
I will eat it in a bar
Yes Sam I Am.....I will eat lobster from night til early morn

Love lobster, can't say that I recall ever eating the green stuff (at least on purpose :p)

I'm with WM Alex and figmentvi . . .

I LOVE the green stuff and the orange eggs (roe)!!! But hey, I'm Chinese, and you know, we Chinese will eat ANYTHING!!!!

Actually, the green stuff is highly prized as a delicacy in Chinese dishes.
