Lobster Tail question

I plan to serve a lobster tail as part of Christmas dinner for DH and myself. Does anyone know how large a lobster tail gets weight-wise before it becomes less than desirable (tough, stringy)? I would hate to purchase one of the larger ones offered (don't mind leftovers, LOL!) and it turn out badly for the money invested.
I would have posted on the Community board but thought asking the "foodies" would be more effective!
Thanks in advance for any input.

AFAIK, there's no upper weight limit on "good" lobster - it just comes down to 1) the quality of lobster purchased and 2) the skill of the cook. :) So as long as you know what you're doing and willing to shell out the big bucks, go for 3-pounders!

Heh. Seriously, though, my advice would be to go to the nicest market you can find and talk to the seafood manager. S/he can guide you to the best quality/value combo for what you're able to spend.
