This is such a #firstworldproblems post that I'm kind of embarrassed to write it, but does anyone know if the lobster at the Yachtsman is actually Maine Lobster as the menu says or if it is Caribbean lobster? I saw a tripadvisor post say it is the latter, and I really don't care for Carribbean lobsters, but I trust the Dis folks here to know if that is accurate or not. This is a special occasion dinner so have been planning ahead what to order.

Looked like a Canadian/Maine lobster half to me when we ate there....July 8th or 9th. Definitely had claws which is the major visual difference between the ones from further North and the ones from the Caribbean Sea.

Learned something new today, thank you!

I believe when my son had it in June, they said it was a Maine Lobster...

Mine was definitely Maine (and a 1000% better than Narcoossee’s a couple days before)

I'm looking for a "GAG" emoticon....
Best REAL LOBSTER - Shula's, Dolphin. LARGE AND REAL. No "Chicken Lobsters" - which are all shell, no meat, really crayfish.
Shula's will serve the REAL DEAL. Sized and priced for a LINEBACKER :). Plan on about $120 per plate.
Shula's, Dolphin - no DDP, TIW accepted.

All personal opinion - I'm not necessarily right, no one else is necessarily wrong.

Whatever it is -go with the beef if you go to YS. I grew up on the coast os Mass and have had more Maine lobsters than I can remember, and the one my wife got at YS several months ago was definitely not stellar. If you're planning on getting to the YS area anyway, walk the few extra steps and go for the lobster at Bluezoo or Shula's.

Yup the claws are the first clue. No claws it's Caribbean.

Technically a chick lobster is just a 1 lb lobster, which is the smallest by law they are able to to catch. The fisherman actually use a gauge to measure the shell and throw them right back if they're too small. The penalty for harvesting undersized lobsters is massive and just not worth it. As for a lobster being all shell and no meat you generally won't find that in a hard shell. If a lobster is molting it's new shell isn't as hard and it's considered a firm shell. In this instance the lobster is under a lot of stress and the meat tends to not be as sweet and not as plump when cooked, thus appearing like the lobster is mostly shell. These lobsters are generally 25 to 35% cheaper than hard shells and some places may cheap out and use these. They generally don't travel well so I wouldn't think they'd fly them to Florida. A dead lobster is of no use to anyone.

As for where to dine at Disney for a Lobster hmm, let's see. You can get a 1.5 lb lobster at Narcoossee's for $72, at the Yachtsman for $62 or a 4 lber at Shula's for $95. If paying out of pocket I'd be all over that 4 lber.

That is good to know about Shula’s. This is probably our last deluxe dining trip and that lobster may make me overcome my aversion to anything football-related and head there. I still thought YC’s was pretty darn good though.

Thank you! The claws are my favorite part so that is really my main[e] (teehee, pun there) concern.

I don't disagree with either of you, but we are on the DxDP, so Shula's is out. We are also going to Tiffins the next night (it is a big birthday/anniversary trip so lots of splurging), and I had my eye on the Wagyu there, so I was thinking of maybe trying non-steak at the Yachtsman and steak at Tiffins.

How are the lobster tails or surf and turf entrees at Shula's?
They are STUNNING. Dear Wife and I (DVC, we visit twice per year, 12 years) consider these offerings to be the BEST at WDW.
We are already booked TWICE for NOV 2018 - one night is STEAK night, second LOBSTER night.

Just us - we only recommend high end restaurants that we actually EAT at :). Sooooo - we sort of put our money where our mouth is :).

Now - Shula's.... NO DDP, TIW accepted :). Party of TWO will run about $240, with solid 20% tip....

We are big fans of Shula’s. We go at least once every trip. Always the highlight of the week. We always ask for John and Mario. Do you have the Swan Dolphin dining passport? It is a free card that gives you points at Shula’s blueZoo Il Mulino and Kimonos. Every $500 you spend gives you a $75 gift certificate. That combined with the TIW card really helps out.

In all this time? Sandy & I never knew that the Swan Dolphin dining passport existed!

THANK YOU! Had we known about this? We would have likely been ahead by about $2000 by now :).
