Lobby Concierge Coming to WDW Resorts

Lobby Concierge - a new Disney resort service will replace what was known as Guest Services in the resorts. Over the next several months, all resorts will be separating the functions of the Front Desk into two service ares: Front Desk and Lobby Concierge. The Front Desk will be your stop for Check-in to the resort as well as any assistance you may need with your room. It is hoped this will simplify and expedite the check-in process. The Lobby Concierge will provide dining and recreation information and ticket sales.

This sounds great should help lessen the burden on the front desk and speed up check-ins. Though I find it odd, that one time when I stayed at the Wilderness Lodge that had a separate area (much like this new concept) and then next year it was gone. I hope it stays, and Hope it is in place when I go in May 2005.

Before 9/11, all resorts had a separate guest services desk. When Disney was looking to cut costs immediately after the 9/11 events, this was one of the casualties. Another was the extra hour in the park for resort guests, which has already been restored. So, it sounds like Disney is returning and perhaps improving upon something else that was taken away due to the slumping economy (more signs that the parks are doing better?)

Years ago when I stayed at Boardwalk Villas this was the set up. Unfortunately what it meant was I stood in a very long line for check-in and then had to go and stand in another very long line to get my park hoppers. This is one of the main reasons I like concierge floor service so much today.

Am I confused? Don't they do this already, with check-in Lines, and Guest services lines???

THey are returning to two separate desk areas. Recently they used part of the FD for Gst Svs. But previous Gst services had a separate desk area, usually near the FD.

They always did everything a Concierge did.

It's about time... the front desk has been a catch-all for far to long.. they have needed to bring back the lobby concierge. It'll help getting checked in with the wait times...
