I've heard the portions in the U.S. are huge compared to here (Ireland) and the U.K. Is that true for Disney World restaurants and general Orlando restaurants? I'm thinking of splitting meals with hubby to save some money. Would that work? Ta!

I think it depends on the place. We found the sizes to be a little larger than over here but not too much. Also remember if you want veg etc you need to ask as it does not usually come with the meal. The only place we found to be huge were the ice creams at Beaches and Cream. A 1 person banana split shared between 4 adults and then we had to put some in the freezer!!

We only ever eat a main meal - just can't cope with a starter & /or pudding as well! I think it is fair to say the portion sizes aren't as large as they once were, but they are still generous. When we go to TGIF for example we order a couple of starters & some sides as our meal (yes, the wait staff think we're weird, but it's better VFM for us. Having a young daughter we rarely eat an evening meal in the world (dd is tired & plays up & we then don't enoy the food). If you're watching the pennies try the last lunch sitting instead as this tends to be pretty much the same menu, but several $$ less.

The breakfast sizes are not as big as I get when I go over to visit family in Belfast, the good old irish fry up :teeth: which usually lasts me the whole day. Alot of the places you go to eat is a buffet style so you can choose how little or how much you want to eat, I think for the first few days you think you're in heaven and get as much as you possibly can on your plate, the only problem with that is if it is the start of the day it takes you all the time to get motivated to move :rotfl2: so by the 3rd or 4th day you get into a routine what you actually need, if you eat in a nice restaurant at night the portion sizes seem to be quite big so if you are planning to have a night out save some space for the yummy food :thewave: :thewave:

Have a great time :shamrock: :shamrock: :shamrock: :shamrock:

The portions are generous, but apart from something like an ice cream we don't ever share - we usually want different things anyway. Prices are reasonable so we just leave what we don't want.

Hello,

Portions are generous (unless it's a take away burger/hotdog type thing) but I would get a meal each per adult as you will need the energy. If you want a desert then I would recommend sharing that. Unless you are very hungry (or have expanding clothes!) I wouldnt bother with a starter aswell.

what they tend to do over there is fill up on the salad bar (amazing what goes int there salads buffalo wings ect ) then when the main meal arrives they are usaly full so they ask for a dogy bag and take it home with them then reheat in microwave ( thats why there over the cooker and not on the worktop) seen this happen from placess like cheep dinners to 5 star eaterys

DEpends on your DH!!!!!!!!!!!

Mine wouldn't share with me. A taste yes but half his meal. No way!!

We thought big portions too but not true!! if like us you like big portions eat at all you can eat buffets. Ponderosa, golden corral, chinese offsite. In WDW and Universal they are normal size portions. WDW has lots of fine sit down restaurants where you get small portions.
