Ok, My oldest dd will be going to Kindergarten in the fall. She has a preschool size llbean backpack, they call it the junior I think. We use it for sleep overs at the grandparents house. For Prek, they had to use the schools bag... so my question is... should I just buy her the larger original size backpack for Kindergarten? Or should I just send her with the Junior backpack she has? I want to do this order soon, cause ever since I was a little kid... I know the LLBEANs sell out fast in the good colors over the summer for the next school year...so If I am ordering I want to do so now. So, bigger for K? or smaller size still be ok.. we do live up north... In MD...so she maybe jamming her coat and stuff in there at times.
Any thoughts?
thanks! :worship:

This is the one I got my daughter for k last year...she's used it all year without a problem. Perfect size for her folder, snack bag and library books. We also used it on our trip to WDW this year as the bag we took to the parks with us (left the stroller at home this year!). Great backpack and I'm going to buy another one this year (different color of course) for my son when he heads to K in the fall.

ok, so thats bigger than the junior size she has from there. They make fantastic bags! Lifetime warranty... can't beat that! My gut is telling me to go with the size you got! Thanks!!

I bought the Original for DS1 when he was in 1st grade, and last year I bought one for DS2 when he started kindergarten. DS1 (in 3rd grade last year) wanted a new one, because he didn't like the lizard print anymore. He used the lizard one for 2 years, and it still looks brand new. I gave in and got a new one for him, and both boys use the lizard bag for sleepovers, etc.

My advice is to go with a solid color if you plan to use it for awhile.

The regular size one in the link above will probably look huge on your DD at first, but it's really nice to have that. So many kids at my DD's school had "junior size" backpacks that just couldn't quite hold a folder, crafts, etc. without bending stuff up and the teacher told me she was glad DD had a full size backpack.

Kindergartners sometimes have a ton of stuff to bring home (projects etc). I got my ds a LL Bean backpack in that size for preschool 4 years ago and it is still in excellent condition. The bottom is a little dirty but otherwise it shows no wear at all. Definitely worth the investment in the bigger bag she can grow into.

You can't go wrong with LL Bean. My neighbors were going through Hannah Montanna and Dora Explorer backpacks like crazy. I bought my triplets the backpack in the photo (only different pattern) when they started kingergarten. They are now in the 6th grade and still carrying them. I bought them some more 2 years ago when they were clearanced at 12.95 and they are still in the plastic bags. My kids said they will wait to use them so we don't have to buy new ones for high school.

These backpacks are the best. Oh and the lunch boxes got my kids through elementary school. They now carry paper bags so they can toss them when they are done. :goodvibes

I bought my DD's LLBean full-size backpack in Kindergarten (where I thought it looked huge on her). Next week she is "graduating" from 5th grade - same backpack and it is finally being retired. I love LLBean - you can't go wrong with their backpacks. I really do believe you get what you pay for - and we definitely got our money's worth for hers.

I would go with a full size. In our district the kids are required to put coats, hats, gloves etc. in their backpack. In 2008 and 2009, there was a terrible lice epidemic. The letters were going home constantly. This year no letters at all. Maybe the new policy is working!

Do they have a good selection of backpacks in the stores?

DD9 has had the junior one for 2 years now and it is just too small for her. I would like to get her a full size backpack to last through middle school and this LL Bean one is the only one that has not only lasted through half of the school year, but for 2 years. They have a store near my house so I want DD to be able to pick one out.

they do have a good selection in the store. If you have the llbean visa you can get free monograming and free shipping.
I see your in MD so we shop at the same LLBEAN!!

My dd started Kindergarten with the LL bean jr. original. She is now going into the 2nd grade with the same bag. It is great on size. Not too big but fits her reading book, binder or folder, and word wall words.

This is my thought exactly. IIRC, DD's K teacher specifically requested "normal sized backpacks, instead of jr. sized ones. However, DD is now in high school, so I could be a little fuzzy on specific kinder details!

My son used his LLBean junior backback for K, 1st and 2nd grade. It was the perfect size. We even took it on Disney trip. We really got our money's worth on that backpack!!

I had an original sized one I used as a diaper bag for DD, she then used it for her school bag K-1. Still in good shape (it's our park bag) she did finally ask if she could please get a different color by 2nd grade, lol. It'll still be good for her next year for 4th grade.

The link given is for original plus size. I'd just get the regular original. The bag is still decent, even for carting snow gear to/fro. Of course, you don't have to fill a bigger one to capacity, but it's my experience kids do stuff as much as they can in there. The smaller (original, I mean, not Jr.) limits it a bit to a safe weight for her back.

This is the one I got my son when he was 3 and in 2 day a week preschool. Today he finishes his last day of 3 day a week preschool so this has been to school for 2 years.

It still looks brand new and is small enough for him to carry but big enough for us to fit in a change of clothes, folder, snack and a lunch box for the days that he stays for "lunch bunch". He will start kindergarten this Sept with the same back pack and he loves it. We have the medium blue one.
