Woke up this morning to the house in darkness and a total power cut. The neighbours houses appear to be on, as is the street lighting.

Yesterday I was doing some wallpaper stripping using one of those steamers, and a couple of drips ran down into a light switch. It worked fine though, and that was 12 hours or more before the power went off.....and I cant believe if it was that, that it would ignore the 20A(approx) lighting fuse before going straight to the outside 100A big fuse.

However....I know I am going to get the blame....

United Utilities are visiting between 8 and 11.

maybe it's just a coincidence....i hope they find the trouble quickly and get you back into the age of enlightenment....

Yay....it was a fuse in the substation, which knocked a few houses out around me (just not my immediate neighbours).

I am now blameless.....thats the important bit !

The only problem now is that my PC is not sat downloading like it should be, and my sky+ box hasnt picked up the hard drive, so will require me messing with it later.

Glad it wasn't your fault and that you are back connected :thumbsup2

Yup, all sorted now, I missed a days worth of downloading though.

The Sky+ box is a bit fiddly when the power is removed as I have upgraded it to a 160Gb hard drive, which has a slightly slower spin-up time than the original drive.....as a consequence if the power is removed, when it comes back on, it looks for a hard drive for a particular length of time, and sometimes mine misses it and thinks its no there...basicaly I just unplug it for about 2 seconds and then when its back on, its already spinning so gets to speed quicker....problem solved.
Fortunately power doesnt get removed that often, so Its not a problem.
