If you are really adament about moving here, try East/west Hartford, glastonbury(is very nice) Hartford commuting can be very hectic! we live in Mystic and are about an hours drive from Hartford...
To be honest, we hate it here...It is very expensive living and the weather sucks. We hate the snow and cold. we both grew up in New England. I am from R.I. and my fiance is from East Hartford/ Glastonbury area. He makes pretty good money but we cant afford a house around here. We actually have decided to move out of this state and go to Florida...
I would not live in East Hartford. Yes, there are some nice neighborhoods, especially as you get closer to the Glastonbury line but there are also large pockets of really rundown housing/apartments/section 8 housing, etc..... and while you may live in the nicer neighborhood you will still have to deal with all of that in your school system. No thanks.
Thanks for the tips. Where we are now, is a small town of 15,000 people but we are 20min. away from a big city and all the amenities that come with that. Sounds like healthcare industry is similar to Ohio, I work in physical therapy and nursing home type setting pays the best and then private clinics and hospitals.
Physical therapy is understaffed around here- seriously. My son is in PT and we've been trying to change his appointment slot for months and it's just not happening. We talk to his PT about it and she says that they are so overwhelmed with demand and can't keep up.
If you wind up moving, feel free to send me a PM, my kids are DD 8, and DD and DS 5, and a little one due in early April- if our kids are the same age we could meet at the children's museum for a playdate! That's the one good thing I can say is that there is a lot to do for kids in the Central CT area. Cost of living is ridiculous but there is quite a bit to do
