I've been having some pain lately and thought it was my gallbladder. I just got sonogram results back and now have to go to get an MRI next week because they found a liver hemangioma which they explained as being a bunch of blood vessels. I have to go for the MRI to make sure that is what it is ????

Ok...so now I'm FREAKING OUT!!!! I'm not a CALM person in general so this has just sent me going crazy!!!

Anyone with experience with this before......

Doesn't hemangioma sort of mean a bruise? Maybe it's just that simple.

Other than that I don't have any information. You take care and feel better :)

A bruise is a hematoma... I have no experience with a liver hemangioma but my daughter has a hemangioma on her lip. It is an entanglement of blood vessels- I guess you can get one on any part of your body. Good luck to you!!

Hope everything turns out o.k. for you. I don't know if this will help you or not, but here goes.

My DD has a spider hemangioma on the tip of her nose. It looks like a small red dot, but of you look more closely, you can see that it is a patch of very small blood vessels close to the surface. Her doctor is not concerned at all about the hemangioma affecting the functioning of her nose or her skin. We have been referred to a dermatologist who advises having it removed for cosmetic purposes when she is a bit older.

Again, hope yours is nothing.

I just had a lump on the side of my foot removed and it turned out to be a cavernous hemangioma. From what I understand these are benign masses that are formed of blood vessels and aren't in themselves dangerous. I don't know if it can be a problemin the liver but they don't spread or even usually come back. That's all I know but I wouldn't worry too much about it. AmyJ:)

Thanks everyone for your quick replies. I guess my main concern is the statement of "Making sure that IS what it is". That is the part that concerns me. You know what I mean.......:(

Of course- I think any one of us would be freaked out for a bit... let us know how you do!!

I went through the same thing this past April. Of course they did not tell me what they were looking at, just that I had some "areas of concern around the liver" but everything turned out just fine. I was told that so long I don't do major injury to the liver, that there is nothing to be concerned about at all. I am sorry that their choice of words was so poor. However, a MRI is how they need to show for sure that that is what the "problem" is.

Wow...areas of concern....I think that's even a worse way to put it. That would have sent me straight into a panic attack!

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of symptoms did you have? Or did they just find it on sono when you went for something else?

Just wanted to send you a  and wish you the best!
Hope everything turns out to be just fine!

Well. it all started with what they thought was kidney stones. I had an x-ray and these two spots were seen. It took awhile, but once they ruled out the stones that is when my doctor did the more involved tests.
