A year ago I was diagnosed with Nonalcholic Fatty Liver disease at the age of 24. I'm wondering if anyone else has this condition and how it has affected them. I haven't had too much of a problem avoiding alcohol and most medications. I went in today for bloodwork to check my liver enzymes because I've been feeling unexplicably fatigued this week. This could be related to something else but I have heard of people with liver problems suffering from similar fatigue. Anyway, just wanted to see if I'm the only one on DIS with a bum liver.

My next door neighbor(35 year old woman) was diagnosed with this about 3 months ago. She tells me she's tired, tired and more tired! so maybe what your feeling is normal. She has to get her liver enzymes checked pretty soon.

I'm sorry you're having medical problems.

My husband has to have his liver enzymes checked every so often because sometimes they are high but nothing ever seems to be done about it. He has a host of other problems so I can't say whether fatigue he has is from that or the other problems/medications. We can never get much of an answer about these high liver enzymes with any doc we've spoken with.

Do the doctors tell you what can be done? Is it to just avoid alcohol & meds? Good luck & better health to you.

Unfortunately, there isn't much that can be done. The liver can heal itself, however, almost completely. Avoiding alcohol, meds, and too many fatty foods like certain cuts of meat (especially beef) is necessary. As well, regular blood tests and ultrasounds are important.

as I just got back from my Doctor about 3 hours ago. I have been warned that I am headed in the wrong direction, but that right now everything is reversible. So I have to lower my carbs, lose weight and I am back to see the Doc in 3 months.

I had never heard of this condition until today. But I do wish you good health.

Thanks very much and the same to you. The funny thing with me is that I'm not overweight by any means. I'm 5'3" at 125 lbs. There's no real explanation for it, just a few guesses concerning previous medications. As a warning, my doc said that everyone should avoid Tylenol just in case.

I had problems with my liver when I was pg with my dd. The poor girl looked like Malibu Skipper when she was born...she was SOOOO orange!!

My enzymes refused to go down, until I got some herbs. Milk Thistle works wonders. Gaia Herbs makes some liver support herbs that are pretty amazing.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis of NASH. I've done my fair share of reading on it.

I was diagnosed this past Feb. with an autoimmune liver disease called PBC. I was horrified when I first found out. They don't know what causes it but I definately must avoid alcohol and certain medications. I've been told there is no cure, however there is a drug called URSO that is supposed to slow the progression of the disease. I have to go for a workup every three months so they can monitor me and other tests as the disease progresses.

I'm not as frightened as I was because I've taken the time to read and learn everything I can about it.
