How serious is a liver infection and can an 81 year old woman overcome it?

What exactly is wrong with her liver? What was the diagnosis?

The liver does over 300 things, many of them vital. If it stops working, the prognosis isn't usually encouraging, regardless of the person's age.

I hope whoever it is gets well.

The liver can regenerate itself. But it really depends on her overall health and if the infection can be curtailed.

My dad is 86 and is in really good health. He heals fairly quickly from infections, etc.
