Hi -
Yes, free internet for DVC is alive and well at OKW, and I thought I'd share our last two nights of dining - Tutto Italia for DD's 12th birthday and Mama Melrose for last night's late night at DHS.
Because of a series of events, we have several separate reservations for our 2 week stay, thus we will be going on and off the DDP. Right now we're on!
We arrived at Tutto about 25 minutes early for our 7 PM ADR and were seated within 5-10 minutes. The hostess was delightful and had DD's b'day noted. The next openings for dinner w/o ADR's was 9 PM.
Our server Tommasso did not speak great English, but more than made up for his communication struggles with a great smile and by being very accommodating. He was VERY rushed. There seems to be a rush in general at the restaurants - the entree arrives within 7 minutes of the time the order leaves your mouth!
There's a little dish of marinated vegetables on the table and a basket of bread - they drizzle the olive oil and you add the pepper I guess - no special herb combo - and there's a lovely whipped unsalted pesto butter.
DD had veal meatballs and pasta - bucatini - (school pasta, she calls it!), DS(16) had the lasagna, flavrful with cinnamon and bechamel and lots of meat, and I had the cappellini with cherry tomatoes, asiago, fresh mozzarella and garlic and olive oil. Portions have shrunk since January but that's fine since I just lost 20 pounds and want to go home without any extra!
I odered the amazing Zabaglione for dessert - served in a large martini glass with berries and a dark chocolate swizzle stick. DD and DS oderd the chocolate gelato - darker chocolate, rich and creamy. DD's birthday cake was the chocolate mousse cake and they all sang with gusto and her smile was worth a million!
DDP "check" came to $118 - about the price of a day's DDP.
I had switched TO MM during the day, got a 9PM ADR and showed at the podium at 8:21. The hostess was delighted to seat us early since she said they close at 9!
Our waiter, Paul - was fabulous - chatty, eager to please and offering suggestions for DS a/k/a "the picky one".Unfortunately, DS was not terribly happy with the smallish flatbread pizza but then - we come from NY where we often have wood-fired vs. classic battles over our pies!
DD enjoyed the ovenbaked chicken parm and finished it - I enjoyed the pork marsala at Paul's suggestion and was glad I did! Flavorful, juicy, braised, glazed perfectly and served atop delicious risotto with a few (emaciated) asparagis on the side - all delicious!! The pork arrived, tho, before I finished my fresh mozzarella salad ($7.99 OOP).Oh my - a huge piece of fresh basil, basalmic, ample tomoato and mozzarella! MMMMM!
Barely room for dessert - DS chose the last Tiramasu - surrounded by a band of white and dark chocolate. He ate the outside - cake and chocooate and I scooped out the lighter than air, unsweetened marscapone. DD enjoyed vanilla gelato and I ordered the "no sugar added" lemon custard with berries.Very soft, light,no big lemon taste - just a hint.
DDP amount was around $82 and we tipped Paul well - what a pleasure!
Hope this is of interest to someone..I am going now to check the nws site on Fay!
