Hi!
I'm at Vero right now. There were 3 messages on our phone when the first day we were here about holding chairs at the pool. They said after 30 minutes, things would be taken to lost and found. This warning is also printed on the info that is in the welcome packet. DD accidentally left her book on a chair, luckily found it moved to a stump 2 hours later. There seem to be plenty of chairs everytime we go to the pool.
We are the second people on the chair swap # 2. Everything was fine, the cast member who checked us in said, "You have 2 boxes to pick up." She had them sent to our room. Very nice. We set up at the beach today. I'll try to post a photo later.
Internet (wireless) is available for free in the lobby if you have a laptop. I couldn't pick up anything in the room. It does say on the telephone info that internet is complimentary in the lobby Green Cabin Room.
My friend who didn't bring a laptop was able to use a computer in the lobby for 30 minutes, $5.
We are in a 2 bdrom, building 12, which is the closest to the lobby I think. Everything is clean, nice and seems in good shape!

Thanks for all the info. Glad DVC is being up front about the chair holding. Have a great rest of your trip. Looks like you have some other DIS friends there too.

Have a great stay! Glad the chair swaps are running smoothly. :goodvibes I think all three groups are going right now!

Hi we were thinking about going there in August and we were wondering how the beach is? Are there lots of people on the beach? What about activities?

Thanks

Not at Vero Beach... on the most crowded day at VB it would seem like an empty day at the bigger beaches. Almost never do you find people camped in front of each other. Check out this thread for some activities.

58 days and counting for us. Hope to see people there the 1st week of June. Don't know which room yet, but who cares. Then off to WDW in november for 10 days.....:yay:

What is a chair swap? Also, on the DVC website for VB, there's a list of items that we have to pay for, including beach chairs. Is that for real??

A chair swap is something Starbox has done the past couple of years. She purchases two beach chairs and an umbrella, maybe a couple of other items and everyone who signs up pays her a share of the cost. When you get to VB, the items are waiting for you with your name on them. When you leave, you put the name of the next person on the box(es) and return them to the CMs to store until they arrive. There is a pre-printed label list in the box to use for this. I am pretty sure it is already full for this summer and starbox isn't taking any more names (it appears to be getting quite large so I'm sure it is somewhat of a logistical nightmare to put together with overlaps of peoples vacations). The good part is that it is much cheaper than the rentals, and there is a little extra thrown in to cover a gift for the CMs for their assistance in storing and handing out the items when you arrive.

We just got back and a CM would leave a recorded message for you on your room phone with a reminder that holding of chairs at the pool is not permitted.

On our last day, the CM's were checking hourly and laying cards down on unoccupied chairs. For example, at 10 am , if there was an unoccupied but "saved" chair, they would put down a card that said "10" on it so the CM's would know there was no one actually sitting on those "saved" chairs. If they came back at 11am and no one was sitting at those chairs, the person's stuff would be removed. Everyone that I saw get cards always came back in time, so we didn't see anyone lose their chairs!
