Live From the May Repositioning Cruise

It was mentioned quite often that we had the least number of children on our cruise (a little over 300) than they've ever had. With that came the comment that they were expecting about 1200 for the August cruise.

It was the entertainment staff who plans the activities who mentioned the numbers. :flower:

I just want to add that I only went on a scenic tour of all floors of the elevator once over the course of two weeks. :teeth:

Did you do any tours or did you just shop? Where did you shop? Where are the shops?

In Mazatlan..when you get off the ship. Look for the taxi's that are open. The driver will take you on a personal tour..much better than the bus tours, because the buses can't go up all the winding roads. Our driver offered to do ours for a total of $30, we gave him a great tip, he was outstanding. Every time I lifted my camera to take a picture, he pulled over and let us get out of the taxi. He waited while we went into the cathedral (a must see), and he stopped at some of the monuments we wanted to see. He took us to the top of the hills (cliffs) to a perfect overlook point...great picture spot. Well worth it..so do this on your own. Then he explained the two shopping areas..old town and the golden zone. He said stay away from old town, that is where you get ripped off. He dropped us at the end of Golden Zone and we worked our way back. The shopping was excellent, the food was excellent.

YEAH! Thanks for the info about Marco. :) That means that he will be back on the ship when we go in December.

I heard it from the cast members of the oceaneer lab. It was stated many times that 1200 kids would be on the Aug repo cruise.
Miss all of you guys from the west bound cruise. It was wonderful . Keep in touch. Jim , did you get your PM?

Ummmm, hello, can you tell me where you got that number? From what some have heard the number is no where near that.
The number is between 1100 and 1200, that comes from the captain's assistant on the repo cruise. We had 355 kids on board, that is people under 18, 55 of which were teens (might have been 345, but the 55 teens is right). So the 1100 to 1200 number is correct, the captain's assistant would have had a more exact number for us, but was unable to get it at the time.
So the 1100-1200 kids range is correct since that is coming from the bridge itself.

I do not think there will be 1200 or more kids on the August repo cruise. The ship's capacity is only 2400 guests. It seems unlikely that atleast 50% of the guests will be children. Plus, there's a list of Dis-ers that will be on this cruise. It includes a pretty solid percentage of guests and the numbers don't add up. If I'm adding things up correctly, I'd bet on around 900 children.

Per the captain's assistant again, our cruise (May repo) was about 2000 (slightly over) guests. That was almost all double occupancy. Change those numbers around and it's very easy to see 1200 kids being on board. Remeber the Christmas cruise (per the bridge again) was 1100-1200 kids (I don't remember the exact number but it was the max amount of kids allowed on board) and you can have 1200 kids on board. I'm sorry people don't want to believe this but this came from people on board whose job it is to know these things and not just speculate.

I don't doubt that at some point the numbers for kids were at 1200. Do I think we'll be sailing with 1200 kids? No. Of the DISers on May 1 that were listed on the August thread, we had 384 adults and 185 kids occupying 181 rooms. If the DISers are a good cross-section of the rest of the population, we'll be at around 800 or 900. We'll see what happens! Things will change a lot between now and August.

For what it's worth, we never asked about the August cruise. Whenever the subject of how few kids there were on our cruise came up, they would inevitably say that they were expecting 1200 on the second PC passage.

Some of the childcare staff was reassigned for the May cruise since there wasn't anything for them to do. It was the least amount of kids that they've ever had on a cruise.

Look at it this way, you'll have less waits for a computer, but you'll have a longer time on the elevator trying to get to them. ;) :teeth:

You probably won't get adult night in the kids club either! That was a blast. Hopefully they can clear the kids out for a night.

I'd love to know who thought that up! When Elaine told me about it, I was really excited! It was such a novel thing to do! Wonder why no one came up with that idea before......they should get a raise!

I have heard there was adult night in the lab. When was it? I had a kid in the 8-9 group and in the 5-7 group and never heard about adult night. I did spend some time in there, anyway with my kids. And, I got to see the Ducky Williams talk in the lab (way cool), but I don't remember reading anything about adult night.

BTW... They did a really cool Princess Party for us. ALL of Lumiers was full. The counselors doubled as servers of tea and cookies. The Princesses (Belle, Snow White, Minnie, . . .) came around to each table. I said something to the Counselor (server) and asked about never having this in my past 2 Magic cruises. She said they were never able to do it because there was always too many kids. This time, they could do it.

I also saw that same counselor working in Cabo helping people off the tender boats. I even said to her how they have her doing all things this trip.

And, yes, they all say there will be 1,200 kids in August.

I must add . . . This was our third Magic sailing. On the downside of so few kids, the lab and the club seemed empty at times. There wasn't the excitement in there or with the counselors as I've seen in past cruises. It was really calm most of the time.

There were actually two adult nights in the lab, one was on the missing semi-formal night the other was on the second formal night. The first night was flubber night and I missed the second night, but heard the jokes were not PG rated. It was a blast being in there.
I have to say I was so use to having so few kids around for 2 weeks Disneyland was quite a shock...

There were two nights in the lab that I saw listed in the Navigator. We missed both but from what I was told, it was a lot of fun.

I got a glimpse of the Princess Party when walking past Lumiere's as it was breaking up. That was some lineup of characters and all of the little girls with their Princess sashes looked adorable. :flower:

Well, if the Captain's Assistant said between 1100-1200 kids for the August repo, why would anyone doubt that? I can fully see how that could be! Most kids are still out of school then...I guess people don't want to believe it because it's a bit shocking to think there could possibly be that many kids cruising with you. (Not that kids are bad-I have two little ones of my own, but with 1100 kids on a cruise, that could get crazy!) :flower:

I know we don't actually care how many kids are on the cruise. We'll be bringing 3 of our own....but, I still doubt that there will be 1200. I also don't see how anyone, captain's asst included, can say how many kids will be on a cruise that is 90 days away (at that time)....given cancelations and new bookings.

Also..we don't know the breakdown of how many kids per age group. Even if there are more kids than usual, that could translate to a lot more 15-17 year old kids than typical or more infants. Neither of these age groups would really affect most "kid" activities."

I did, out of curiousity because of this thread, find a few websites that say the maximum # of kids on the Magic is roughly 800. I know that doesn't mesh with what people have reported on other cruises. I guess we'll all just have to wait and see.

My guess is that people have to get home first.....;)

And after they get home, they will need a nice long nap, for about two or three days... then the reports will come piling in. As for me, I see a feather bed with my name on it. back to snoozing for me.

But Marco and Salvadore went back to Milan immediately after getting off the ship and then onto their home in Sicily. Their sister is having a big audition in Milan and Mama wants them there for it. Salvadore signed the contract but he really wants to settle down and get married and have babies. Sal is also concerned about the family business. He's not sure about coming back, a big part of him wants to be in Sicily. Marco: he's still the man about town, and will definitely be back on board.

Margaret... thanks for the update. We had Salvatore on the Magic's Maiden voyage! It was WONDERFUL to see him again. He told us he would be coming back, but who knows what changes going home may bring... I'm so glad we saw him again!
