ok heres a dumb ??? It looks like the magic is scrapping by it is so tight. How wide is the canal and the magic? Tight squeeze it looks like, but so awesome to watch.

The MAGIC is 106 feet wide and the locks are 110, but don't forget about the other measurements... the locks are 1000 feet long and the MAGIC is 965 feet long... that's tight too!

I was there yesterday :cool1: but I'm home today :guilty:

I was one of 3 pilots assigned to take the MAGIC through the Canal, and had the opportunity to spend most of the day with DIS boards members (some I remember: Scott & Lynn - Scoot H -, Linda & Robert - seaulater -, Tony & Adrianne, Leslie & Joe, Elaine & Margaret, and, of course, Kelli & Keith... there were a lot more than that but I did not get all the names)

Got on the ship at 0630am, just before we entered Gatun locks, and as soon as we left the locks (around 8:15am) I went to meet my "new friends" at Kelli's cabin (the one you saw the DIS sign hanging from the balcony) We had breakfast together and basically spent the whole morning touring the ship and chatting with a group of wonderful people who kept showing up at Kelli's stateroom. Stayed with them until it was time for me to work again (Pedro Miguel locks) and saw them again for a couple of minutes between locks (PM and Miraflores). Sadly I had to say good bye (talk about wanting to stay on board pirate: )... :wave2:

That was my quick report...

Wow!! Thanks for posting Alvaro. That had to special for you and all the Dis members on board. Especially knowing that a DISer was helping see the Magic through the canal. Thanks for taking care of her!

Just made a little scratch on the stern at Gatun locks... but Goofy took care of it right away... :rotfl2:

Ditto on the "upgrades" while in dry dock......Has anyone heard anything else?? :confused3 It is the end of the week!!!

I will be on the aug repo and i just finished reading though the threads for yesterdays panama canal crossing. I was excited before but even more excited now. I just cant wait. Can anyone tell me thats on board or has seen on the boards what would be a good day to go eat at Palo? Also tomorow we are able to make reservations and i want to know with excursions are good ones to book.

I just read that a bunch of places opened up on the aug repo does anyone know know the estimate of people and the estimate of kids on board?

Alvaro,

She had to be in good hands with you and Goofy both taking care of her!

Also, as a DISer, if you get the chance please thank the Miraflores web cam operator(s) personally from all of us for providing the fantastic shots as the Magic was moving through the locks. A number of us sent emails (in at least one case with a link to this board), but a personal hug/handshake from a DISer would be even better.

Here's hoping that you get the pilot assignment when the Magic returns to the canal on August 28th.

OH, YOU WERE SOOOOO LUCKY! :teeth: Not only did you get to help get the Magic through the canal, but you got to meet fellow DISers as well!

I would like to learn some things about the panama canal before we go through. Canyone tell me any good books to read that talk about the Panama canal and where to buy them?

Don't have the names of any books but the website that we watched the Magic on yesterday www.pancanal.com/ also has history and lots of other info.

If you google "Panama Canal" you'll get lots of resources.

((((((May repo sailors- Could you find the person w/ the DIS colored banner and take a digital pic of it to post now/ or later?????)))))))) :wave2:

That would be me......I stayed up Friday night May 13 at 11:30 p.m. painting the banner that spread 60 feet across our hotel room floor. The luggage came in real handy. I had the banner winding between all our luggage!!! Told my parents, if you get out of bed during the night don't run into the banner! Got to take care of the important stuff!

The banner says "TAKING THE MAGIC KINGDOM TO KINGDOM ~ DISNEY'S 1ST PANAMA CANAL CRUISE"

Yes, we have digital pictures from the sailaway and yesterday the ship's photographers took pictures of us from the AFT on deck 6 verandah which will be in Shutter's sometime today.

We cannot post pictures during the cruise as the internet cafe will not let us upload anything. But after we get home on May 28, I will upload the banner and put on the site for all to see.

Let me just say Alvaro was wonderful! It was absolutely incredible to be able to share the day with him during his free time from piloting the Magic through the canal! Memories to last a lifetime!

Reading these posts has become a daily event for me. Love it.

It is truly amazing how one "something... Disney Crusing" can bring so many people together. From everywhere. My husband thinks I am crazy but I think I am blessed.

Thanks to all who take time to post on these boards and especially for the photos from yesterday. Amazing and Awesome.

Alvaro - ditto what Buzzman said - please thank all of the camera operators for getting us such AWESOME pictures of the ship going through Miraflores. I'm sure it had to help that I said there were a lot of us living through our 350 friends that were on the ship!!!!!!

But seriously, please thank them all for a wonderful job. They made a lot of people's day!

Oops, forgot this computer was signed in as Doctor P - this is actually Cruise04. Sorry about that.
