Thanks evryone for all of the wonderful LIVE reports!!!
I just wanted to let you know that our local ABC CH.7 news had the Magic arriving in San Pedro this morning from 6:30-7:00am. It was a beautiful sight!!!! :flower: Also, the OC Register has an articul about the Magic in the business section of the paper.
For everyone going to Disneyland today have a great time!!! :earsboy: :earsgirl:

I agree - great pictures Rae Ann - thanks for sharing them with us.

I'm trying to convince DH that we HAVE to go back for the 5 pm festivities (we live 15-20 minutes away from port). There was a helicopter hovering over the Magic. It was probably a news helicopter and we'll be tivo-ing the local ABC news today to see if they covered the Magic. We were at a lookout above San Pedro and we could see people down by Cabrillo Beach (it may have been Mary Jo) welcoming the Magic. After the Magic passed the breakwall and proceeded to dock, we raced down to the Ports O'Call area and took more pictures right next to the Acapulco restaurant. On the other side of the restaurant there were others welcoming the Magic with shouts and an air horn. The Magic answered back with it's "Wish Upon a Star" horn.

I don't have Photoshop on this computer but I'll try to crop some of the photos & post it to my site. If any of the Repo cruisers would like me to email photos to them, please PM me.

Disney tests L.A. waters
Disney Cruise Line sets off today on first of 12 West Coast trips. It may find a permanent berth.

By MICHELE HIMMELBERG
The Orange County Register

The Disney Cruise Line plans to launch its first West Coast cruise today, from the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro - possibly paving the way for a permanent home.

The Disney Magic is scheduled to arrive from its established port in Florida, then set sail by the end of the day for the Mexican Riviera. It's the first of 12 consecutive seven-night trips, with stops in Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlán and Cabo San Lucas.

The initial cruise is nearly sold out, and availability is extremely limited for the rest of the summer, said Rena Langley, a Disney spokeswoman.

The cruise line came to California to join the company's celebration of Disneyland's 50th anniversary.

Disney will use the summer cruises to explore a potential West Coast expansion.

The soonest that could happen would be 2007, officials said, because schedules are already set for 2006 in Florida.

"It's a test to see the depth of demand," said Tom McAlpin, president of the Disney Cruise Lines. "We're not sure we'll get the same kind of (interest) as Central Florida. But there's such an affinity for Disney, it's possible."

McAlpin said Disney has established a good partnership with the Port of Los Angeles and "they want Disney to come back."

Airport accessibility also makes Southern California an attractive option for Disney.

Another option could be Alaskan cruises, which have become very popular.

Disney offered visitors the chance to combine West Coast cruises with trips to the Disneyland Resortin Anaheim, similar to the way cruises are packaged with trips to Disney theme parks in Florida.

The Magic, set to return to Florida Sept. 3, has three theme restaurants, 877 staterooms designed for families, and separate entertainment areas for children and adults.

What makes a Disney cruise unique, McAlpin said, is that it offers families a secure environment with entertainment and recreation for children of all ages, while still being "elegant and sophisticated enough" for adults.

Thank you so much for posting the pictures of the Magic coming into port. This makes our June 25th cruise that much closer!!! It's too bad it wasn't sunny as she sailed in. :sunny: I'm sure it will clear out to be a beautiful day as she sets sail south for Mexico.

It has been very gloomy around here for the past couple of days. Low clouds and fog in the mornings, then the sun will break through for a while, then the fog rolls back in once afternoon comes. Since San Pedro is right on the water there is a very good chance that it will be overcast at least this afternoon. I am hoping that I get some sunshine for photos when go down to the port this afternoon, but not holding my breath. I just hope that it is not so foggy as to see the fireworks.

Hi,

There really weren't any festivities this morning. It was just emotional seeing the Magic here in my backyard, so to speak. Hearing the Horn twice. There were about 15 people were I was standing. A couple staff members from the Magic were there, they gave us golden ears and a scarf that says "Inaugural West Coast Cruise May 28, 2005. "
Seeing all the people on the Magic and waving. It was great!!! And totally worth only getting 3 hours of sleep. Now I'm off to pick up my friend and her family and take them to the port to board the 1st sailing.

The pictures from the new show look fantastic!!! Thanks for sharing -

I can't believe the Magic is here in my backyard! Wasn't planning on going because I don't think I could handle seeing her and know that I am not going on her!!! Maybe I will just bring a big tissue box -

Karen

PS - I have gone through Customs here and it's not fun! Hope all the DIS'rs have passports and exit as smoothly as possible - It can be a wait sometimes (especially is you have only birth certificates)

Kaitlins mom- Take your tissues and go! PLEASE, for me. :hyper:

Friend of Piglet- any chance you can take a digital pic of the scarf? :teeth:

GoofyontheHiseas- Let's all hope for GREAT weather later today! :wizard:
