castaway to a direct hit from the eye of the hurricane and had to deal with 12 hrs of 50+ mph winds and rain. we say damage at Abaco which is less the 40 miles away. and from the damage we say on TV in Nassua(which was brushed by the eye) we are hoping the CC is still there and not blown away. and with the 124 mph gust the recorded at port canaveral i hope the DCL terminal and all the cars parked there are all ok. this is the best information til someone is able to get to the terminal. good luck and GOD Bless

Hey Bobby,
If this keeps up, you'll be on the Magic's first ten day cruise.:p

Disney Cruise Line® –
Important Information
Sunday, September 05, 2004 8:32:44 PM

As you may know, Hurricane Frances brought about significant destruction in part of the Caribbean as well as the state of Florida in past days. The thoughts of Disney Cruise Line’s cast and crew are with all of those who have been negatively impacted by the hurricane.

The slow movement of Hurricane Frances has made it necessary for us to make additional changes to the scheduled Disney Magic and Wonder sailings.

Disney Wonder
The four-night Bahamian sailing originally scheduled to depart on September 5th has been cancelled . All guests have the option of a full refund, a four-night Walt Disney World Resort stay, or on a space available basis, sailing on the modified Disney Magic four-night itinerary scheduled for September 7th. All guests scheduled for this cancelled voyage will also receive a discount voucher for a future three-, four- or seven-night cruise.

Guests scheduled to sail on the cancelled September 5th Disney Wonder voyage are in the process of being contacted by our reservations staff or they may contact Disney Cruise Line Reservations
at 800-WDW-CRUISE.

The September 9th three-night cruise to the Bahamas is still set to depart as scheduled from Port Canaveral.

Disney Magic
The seven-night Eastern Caribbean sailing, originally scheduled for September 4th, will be shortened to a four-night cruise and will depart on Tuesday, September 7th at 5 p.m. from Port Canaveral. The ship will arrive back at Port Canaveral as scheduled on Saturday, September, 11th. This voyage will sail to Cozumel, Mexico.

Fares for this shortened cruise will be discounted 50% , and guests will be offered special incentives for sailing.

The September 11th, seven-night Western Caribbean sailing is still set to depart as scheduled from Port Canaveral.

HERE IS what Carnival is Sayying

The following information will recap the status of Carnival ships that may be delayed returning to their homeport due to Hurricane Frances. Please understand that this information is subject to change based on the actual path and speed of the storm:

Carnival Glory August 28, 2004 departure: Arrival in Port Canaveral may be delayed until Tuesday, September 7, 2004

MAYBE Delayed So ????

How about the Magic ???

I think Disney is doing a great job of trying to make people happy. They're losing so much money because of the hurricane, and still they're offering discounts/refunds/alternatives for something beyond their control and not their fault.
This is very impressive to me. I would never have expected them to be so generous.

coast of Florida .... that u will not be able to dock at the port
on Monday at noon and Think u willl Be on Disneys First Ever 10 Night Cruise....

Any word from the Captain Carnival is not coming Back until Tuesday

From a former Aug 28th Cruiser...

We were one of the groups that disembarked at Galveston - a hard decision indeed. We are not ones to overplan anything and thought that the changes in itinerary were neat - understanding that the reason behind it was not pleasant for others.

There are several things that Disney could have done better, especially when they told us that we needed to make a decision to stay or go the night before reaching Galveston, when in fact we decided Saturday morning only after arranging a flight home from Houston.

Also, the only way we had to exchange information with the airlines was to either use the very crowded Internet cafe or to pay something like $7/minute for phone calls. No cell phone towers in the Gulf of Mexico! It would have helped if someone from Disney started monitoring / limiting Internet usage to everyone reasonable access (this coming from someone that paid the $90 for access and didn't get anything near that amount of use). They could have also freed up some of the staff computers to help alleviate the bottlenecks. Maybe someday there will be Internet to the rooms or ship-wide wireless access.

I do understand that this was a very unique and demanding situation and that it seemed that the Disney folks were trying to help. I hope they take some lessons learned from this for future situations.

Also, I do appreciate the frequent updates given to us regarding the change in itinerary and the impact on the cruise. I felt that they told us what they knew, and what they didn't.

We would have loved to stay on the ship a couple more days, but we really wanted to be home for Tuesday when our kids go back to school. So if we knew that we would be back to port and to home on Monday, we would have stayed.

For us, we did get our 7-day cruise and even though the decision was not popular with the kids, we made the right decision for us.

With everything and everyone DCL has had to deal with I think they are doing great! A upstanding company!

I am so impressed that DCL was able to put together a 'new' show for last night (the STOMP-like show). I hope we hear what they are doing tonight too.

I can not imagine how difficult this has been for everyone involved. Let's pray that Hurricane Ivan fizzles out. I think Florida has had enough!

slacker - I think I would have debarked in TX, too. A couple of days on the Magic sounds great, but I would be so stressed about getting out of FL - it wouldn't have been worth it for me. I'm glad you and your family returned home safe. Best wishes to everyone still on the ship. Hopefully, you will get home soon!

Hygiene99: Did you see the post just before this one of yours on the thread? It probably was posted while you were typing. It answers your question.

Good Morning..

As of last night..We are scheduled to Dock at the Port 8:00pm..

The captain informed us, we may stay onboard until tuesday due to the problems in Florida...

I just hope my car is still there...

Seas were rough yesterday..My older daughter wanted to get off...

Last nights show was the farewell Variety and dinner was the Best Of..

I wonder whats in store for today..

Any more upsdates on The Port?..

Thanks

Bobby

Thanks for all the updates. It has been very interesting to 'see' how things are going on the ship while all this has been happening.

I think PC was hit pretty hard, but I haven't read any reports on damage assessment. Shirley and Norm were over there, but we haven't heard from them lately either so I am guessing there is no power.

I have a feeling you will probably be spending another night onboard the ship.

Hope your car is alright when you get back. There does seem to be a lot a water everywhere from the looks on things on TV. But they have been showing Vero Beach for the most part, I haven't actually seen anything form PC.

I just want to say that this thread is amazing. The fact that we are able to have live reports from crew members and customers on the ship is great.

We will keep everyone in our thoughts and hope you all get home safely.

Thank you all for the beautiful Galveston pics also. We enjoyed looking at those.

18 DAYS AND COUNTING to the Wonder!!!!:wave2:

He Bobby and everyone else on board. Thanks so much for the live posts. I very much agree with dcanoli, it has been amazing hearing from the ship live. Far more accurate and up to date than any news broadcast. Best of luck getting back and getting home. I know the extra days on the ship were awesome, but your real lives at home have been quite disrupted.

How is the cast and crew handling all of this? I home their next group of passengers isn’t too cranky with them since their cruise has been shortened.

Bobby

Haven't been able to find any images of the port to see its condition :( I would be worried about my car too if it was me!! They had 124mph winds at the cape. Probably best to stay on ship till morning. At least you'll have a bed to sleep in and light to access any damage in the morning.

As far as Cocoa beach seems to be some structural damage and trees/signs/lines down from the photos popping up. Not really sure to the severity of the damage. A church's steeple came down into the roof of the church.

Two Palms cam is still going ...although the glass is covered in whatever (seaweed, seafoam??) from the water.

Pier cam is down.

Channel 6 cam is down :(

Let us know when you arrive home safe and sound. Could be an adventure to get out of Florida.

Hello Everyone..

We cant get into Port canaveral..

We are going to Fort Lauderdale...

Shoulr arrive by Midnight Tonight due to the high ship traffic..

DCL will let us gett off tomorrow morning...

There will be buses for us to go wherever we need..

If anyone cant get flight outs, DCL will put up people on Disney Property with free transfers to the airport..

I just hope my car is ok at the port..

Will talk to everyone when I finally get home..

Bobby
