arrived here on sunday, got the 300 loop as requested. saw how tight the back-ins appeared to be but we got in on the first try. not as tight as they look i guess. we like the convenience of just walking down to the settlement area, although Settlement store is closed til mid august!! grrrr....i wasn't too happy about that but we'll just make do and bike to meadows. we are finding that we really don't need a golf cart, afterall, although the sign said they are available still. we never planned on getting one.
i can't say enough how much i love it here. it reminds me SO much of disney's HH Island resort, only it has even more to do, not to mention being across the water from the magic kingdom! everyone is so nice and friendly, very easy to start up a conversation. i enjoy walking the dog, she is loving it too, she's already met some other dogs along the way.
had a little trouble with the cable being very fuzzy and once i couldn't connect to the internet, i knew something had to be wrong. they came out and checked the box outside and something wasn't right, they fixed it and reception got better and modem worked perfect.
getting the hang of the bus system was easy too. we didn't use it too much last time we were here since we had a car but using it alot now. we must be hitting it lucky cause we are hardly waitingn at all for a bus, either here or at the parks.
Can't believe we're here for another week and a half. i just wish i could live here!
i know there are other DISers here, i saw the one lady's site with the pooh light and mickey light but no one was there that i could see. haven't seen too many crazy golf course drivers, worst i saw was someone driving with a small child on their lap letting them steer, yikes. most kids are not wearing bike helmets which surprises me somewhat. my son wouldn't think of riding w/o a helmet! (law in PA).
one thing that scared me, when i picked up the internet kit at check in, i did not take the time to read that SITES pay the fee AS SOON AS THEY PICK UP THE KIT? HUH? but cabins pay starting with first use?(thought sites were this way too). i immediately called check in and DORA told me that no, that is not true but i read it verbatim from the card that was given to me. they specifically have a section for SITES and one for CABINS. Exact wording is as follows: SITES: cost is 9.95 for each 24 hr period starting when modem kit is issued to guest. explain to guest that they will be charged for each day (24 hr period) that the modem kit is in their possession (regardless of whether or not they used it during that time).
anyways, i called and said this was never told to me this way, only that i had to pay the refundable 125 for the kit, which is fine. she said she never heard of this rule and checked my acct. and confirmed i had no charges as of today. i am still a little worried and will dispute any time i am charged for that i did not use. :surfweb:
anyways, all is well at the fort, we love every minute so far.
had to laugh, had pizza at trails end and saw a little baby lizard on the inside window sill. pizza was SOOOO good, btw.
i was afraid i'd miss OKW, but we decided we love it even more here.:thumbsup2

Donna, glad your having a fantastic time. A question for you, can you walk to the boat transportation from your loop ? Did they take down the Epcot wand yet ? How long is your tt, is the 300 loop that tight? Even though we were there in April, I can't remember any of this :confused3 . Is there anyway you can take a picture of your loop ? Have fun and check back with us. TIA

Lucky bum...........;)

what is happening at the settlement??????????????????????

yes, it is a short walk either the front sidewalk OR the back sandy path along the water (not lit at night). also, the bus stop is literally right at the end of the loop so a bus can easily be caught to the settlement stop, but it really is a short walk even in the heat!
yes, wand is down, it is literally a plain old silver geosphere now! i will get pictures of that today since we're heading to epcot.
our class c is 31 feet long, some sites seem a little tighter than others, it depends on where you are on the curve of the road, but they seem pretty easy to get into. we are not used to backing in, we usually get pull throughs but we got in first time. i will try to get a picture of our loop, that is one that i have to take anyways. i love it so much that i don't want to sleep at night! it's such a waste of good fort time to sleep! lol!

thats just it, i LOVE all the goings on around here. around 7-8 in the morning, the place comes ALIVE, kids on bikes, carts all around, people walking dogs, everyone saying hi. it's just great. last time we were here, we weren't very close to the settlement area and that is nice, but i love the hubub of activity going on. saw the hoop dee doo gang last night getting ready to go into the show, trails end was packed but you could still get in easily. we can hear the boat whistle and i SWEAR, if you listen close from our site, you can hear the MK train! i just wish the settlement trading post was open, but meadows is nice too! we used the air pump at the bike barn yesterday, it's a freebie, lol. only free thing at disney, lol.

Forgot to mention, while we were waiting for a bus down at the settlement depot, there were some non-disney (outside company) workers doing some work there next to the bus stop. all of a sudden, they started using some really foul language! i couldn't believe what they were saying within ear shot of little kids! i was just about to go over and tell them this is a family resort but then the bus came and all of us got on. if it happens again, i am telling them or reporting them to the front desk. i made a point of noting the name of the company on the side of the truck and i have a feeling they'll be back to continue working.

They should charge you the minute you pick up the kit........ There aren't enough kits to go around.

Just buy a Sprint card and be done with it. I've traveled to many places with mine and it works great. Funny thing is, it works better away from home than it does at my house. :sad2:

Man, so the wand is already down! Well, at least I got to see it one last time a few weeks ago, although I never was really a fan anyways.

So are the refurbishing the Settlement trading post? Been a while since I've seen or heard about either shut down, so I'm sure their time was coming.

Glad to see you're having a blast. Reading your trip report makes me wish I was there!

And that's the great thing about the Fort, everyone is so friendly! But I believe that's just camping in general, your "rooms" are more "open", so by nature I just think it makes everyone more sociable. Keep us updated!

Went to epcot today, practically deserted. soarin was only 20 mins. wait at 10, got fastpass for 11 and walked on nemo, 10 min. wait for Crush and walked on (as usual) imagination. we had lunch at le cellier then made our way around the world, under cloudy skies. not nearly as hot today with the clouds. At american adventure, i ran into my sister's childhood best friend from grade school, what a small world! We noticed they changed the end of the movie, now showing oprah, bill clinton, and some sept. 11th debris scenes. that wasn't like that when we were here in april.
made it back just before the skies let loose, just in time to get molly out and around the loop for a walk. it is POURING cats and dogs right now! Still having great luck with buses. walked to #5 at epcot and bus was waiting, only 3 people on it. Dropped off at the outpost stop and 30 seconds later a yellow settlement bus pulled up and dropped off at our loop (wasn't sure if they would since stop was on opposite side).
when i came in, computer had somehow disconnected from internet and would not reconnect even though all lights were on as they should be. then i remembered that we had to check OUT and re-check in today (using points and cash combo) and thought it wanted my NEW key to the world ID, but that didn't work either. called tech support and they showed me how to repair the LAN connection; i'll try that again if it happens again.
we're going to go over to wild. lodge later and just look around.
yikes, water is REALLY pouring off the awning right now! won't be cooking out tonight! who cares, a rainy day here is better than a sunny day at home!

It was 95 degrees here today, heck I might as well be at Fort Wilderness.

Donna thanks for the pictures, I hope you have a blast, even with the afternoon showers !

Donna really enjoying your report. I have requested the 300 loop when we go in October. We stayed in the 200 loop once and I really enjoy being so close to the marina & Pioneer Hall and hearing the boats & trains Great I can't Wait!
Thanks Again

great pics ! are the hammock pictures from the FW beach? They look so relaxing :) The castle pics are fantastic ! Great trip it sounds like

Cool pictures!! Are the hammocks on the beach new? I've never seen them before, they sure are calling my name! As a matter of a fact, we've all called dibs on the one we want for the next time we're there.

You're really making me wish I were there! (and I love 'no cook-out tonight, who cares!! You've been Fortified!)

Thanks for the report and the pictures now I can't wait to go. We check in on sept 8th in a cabin. I am glad they brought back some hammocks. They look so inviting. Your pictures are great, thanks again for posting.:)
