Live From the 5/31 Eastern Magic

What stateroom are you in? We have 2500 (one of the noisey ones!) booked for June 28. Have you had much noise from Nightclubs, dining room, or engines?

I am going through 7-day cruise withdrawal, so it's so nice to read your updates. If you see Captain Guus, please tell him that Barb and Tony said hi. He was staff captain when we sailed last time on the Magic, so it was neat to sail with him again as captain. He is such a nice guy! We've sailed with Jim a few times, and although Rick is definitely our favorite cruise director, we enjoy Jim too. Comparing him to Rick is unfair anyway, as I don't think there is anyone else like Cruise Director Rick!
I will send thoughts of pixie dust your way in hopes that your weather at Castaway Cay will be just as perfect as ours was.

Barb - I know we can't sway you to join us permanently on the 7 nighters, but maybe someday we can meet "halfway"!

Glad you are back and had that great time away from the wet, windy and cold midwest - nothing changed up here since you left.......

Sorry for no posts yesterday, but there are so many better things to do other than the internet cafe.

St. Maarten was great and the island tour and butterfly farm was a good introduction to the island, but not very good for active people. Next time we'll do a active excursion and some independent exploring.

Today is St. Thomas and we have the "Wild Thing" excursion booked. The weather is great and we're looking forward to some snorkling.

Somthing new for us on Monday was dinner at Topsiders. Due to show and movie schedule we couldn't make our late dinner seating. It was very interesting going to Topsiders and being greeted by a seating hostess. The lights were low and table clothes on the tables, the buffet had the salads premade but we ordered the main course and dessert from a menu. This is a ggod alternative between the dining room dinners and fast food by the pool.

I have to go now to make our excursion. I'll try to post again tonight or during our sea day tomorrow.

if you go to palos, could you look up andrew (south africa) for me and tell him mrs martini said hi, he has one week left, thanks

Just a quick post before the St. Thomas sail-away party. The weather is still perfect and the "Wild Thing" excursion was great. It was almost exactly like the Fury excursions except a much faster boat. Two stops, one for snorkling and one at a beach, and the beach was the nicest I've ever seen, a picture perfect secluded tropical beach with no one else on it.

Sorry Bengals, no Palo on this trip, just making it to our regular dinner seating is almost being over-committed for us.

Here is the Magic before leaving St. Thomas on June 4, 2003

We were on the 17th Eastern Cruise and we did the Golden Eagle Catamaran Snorkle and the St. John Barefoot Catarmaran snorkle excursion. We had fun but were disappointed in the snorkling at both islands.

The snorkling was right off a beach (for both islands) and there wasn't a whole lot to see. I think the captain mentioned something about it being Honeymoon Beach at the St. John excursion, I'm not sure. Of course we got a eyefull of nudists at St. Maarten's excursion.

I guess I am comparing it to last year's cruise on the Western at Cozumel and Grand Cayman and at both of those islands we did snorkle excursions and we saw a lot of fish (swimming up to our face) and lots of colorful coral and even ship wrecks. We didn't snorkle off a beach but way out, you could still see land but the water was very deep and colorful and full of things to look at.

Was your snorkling full of wonderful things to see? If there isn't the new itinerary when we go cruising again we are going to do the Eastern again, but choose different snorkle excursions.

Thanks for the post of the picture Andy. If you could zoom in you could see me sitting on deck 10 forward on the big U-shaped wood lounge structure (anyone knows if those have a special reason?).

The ships had to have the mandatory exchange of horn blasts when passing as we left port, and the Magic "signed-off" each exchange with the "When You Wish Upon A Star" horns, everyone on the other ships clapped and cheered us, (this ship sure has class, and knows how to show it). For being such a new (and really BIG) ship, the Explorer of the Seas has a really bad sounding ships horn.

One other note: The refillable mugs have changed and are now either Nemo or Gold DCL logo'd.

Hey Bruce, saw that you posted "Sea Breeze" as the band playing the Sailaway parties, Is Johnny Danger not there any more?. When we were there in February we did not miss a single show he and his band mates put on.

Thanks Bruce,
Norm

They weren't on the May 17th cruise either. I was told they are on their break and will be back shortly (I can't remember when).

They are a great band and I was disappointed they weren't playing. Sea Breeze (in my opinion) is just ok. Sea Breeze only played 2 times that I saw on my cruise (Port Canaveral sail away and 50's night, which they messed up quite a bit). Maybe it was just a off week for them.

I was also on the 5/17 cruise and Sea Breeze did play everynight there was a theme night in the club. they came on after the theme nights were over and played until about 1:00 am or so. They were good, but Johnny Danger is still our favorite.

MJ

Sorry about that I left a lot of the times after the theme night was over. Johnny Danger band played as the opening to the theme nights two years ago, then they would do the special theme stuff and then they would come back on. I didn''t see that happen with Sea Breeze that is why I left. Oh well. :(
