Live from SSR--and I hate it!

I am very sorry your experience with SSR wasn't a good one. I have stayed there before and loved it. I don't think I have ever had a problem with a room having cobwebs in it or a large amount of dust. Usually WDW aren't like that. I would think the Mousekeepers would notice if they room was very dirty and needed cleaning or fixing, or other guests and would let a CM know.

I tried to read this entire post to be sure I didn't miss something, but I am still befuddled on the "dark hallways" complaint. SSR "hallways" are outside and is one of the reasons we love SSR - no "long closed in hotel hallways" to remind you that once again you are traveling.

And yes, Florida has spiders; and Love Bugs if you are there at the right time of the year. But I'm sure GF has none of the seasonal wildlife issues, being a better Disney resort and all. :snooty:

Hmmmm....We have stayed at SSR many, many times and always loved it. I think some people are very hard to please. Being upgraded to the GF? Did you ask for that? It sounds like you weren't going to be happy until they moved you to another resort. It is sounding more and more like people expect perfection on the part of WDW. Guess what folks? Ain't gonna happen! People are not perfect and we don't live or play (at WDW) in a perfect world.

THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! That is so true!! Kinda knew where the thread was heading even before I read on!! But remember there are those people that complain over everthing, paint missing from a MK garbage can to the Disney buses taking longer than expected , I mean I can go on and on!! But When we do go to Disney can't say I look for those things,or if they do happen that they bother me. Hubby and I usually laugh because we know someone is getting all huffy over it I mean really what can you do?.. I look at it this way, I feel lucky enough to be able to afford to take our girls to Disney in the first place and I am not gonna spend my time complaining or nit picking about things like that!! My Disney vacation means way to much to us to have it ruined by something like that!! Believe me I'm not saying we've never had a resort problem , but it is what it is, usually it gets resolved and we move on!!!

But I think because it is Disney ,people expect perfection ( good luck with that , lol) and like it was said , people are not perfect , and we sure as heck don't live in a perfect world!

And as a side note we own and stayed at SSR for the past 6yrs and love it...But found people like it there or do not....Eh, can't please them all! LOL

I agree....how exactly did the OP come by dark hallways?? They are 100% open air hallways. The only time they may be darker is at night...when it's well, dark outside! LOL

I find it hard to believe all those complaints. We've stayed at SSR at least a dozen times and we've never encountered those types of issues.

If you go into anything with the attitude of "I don't want to be here" then.. it becomes self fufilling.

I think a lot of board posters decided "the common view is SSR is bad so I am going along" I admit I was a little worried before my first visit because of the "trash talk" but.... it's actually the ONLY resort where I once spent an entire day "playing" and never saw a park.

So if you walk in going "I hate it here" and start looking for things "gee honey it's night outside and it's dark" then.... (that's all I can figure out on those hallways although they have pretty good light, but I guess if at night you don't take off your sunglasses it's "dark" LOL!)

My rooms are basically hotel clean (and if you plan to eat off a floor at any hotel you need a reality check LOL!)

Sadly, a lot of complaining now is "what can I get for free" and considering the OP wound up at the GF....

Thank-you for posting everyone. We are new DVC members and our first stay is booked at SSR. I have always wanted to stay here but when I first read this post I was a little concerned. Now I am not. Really looking forward to exploring this resort and all it has to offer. Including the "dark hallways and spiders".

I personally don't find them dark, unless lights are out.

It is a beautiful resort. We have stayed at all the DVC and Disney resorts and never had a bad stay at SSR. The front desk staff is great.

Enjoy your trip. Congress Park will soon be finished with rehabs and except for this one report, others have found the new rooms really, really nice.

Yep that was my first question to the OP, unless lights are out in the hallways, there is no way that the hallways at SSR are dark, just not possible.

I guess the internet is not working at the Grand, as we have not heard back from the OP.;)

I don't get the dark comment either. We find SSR to not be very dark at all. Still very interested in hearing how the OP ended up at GF - hopefully they paid to upgrade out of their own pockets, and the upgrade did not come out of our DVC pockets.

We've just gotten off the Fantasy, which was wonderful. But now that we are here, the place is just disappointing.

The bathroom floor is dirty--visible dirt all over the tiles. The bathroom door has cobwebs all over it. The room is very worn looking, and has a layer of dust on it. I'm guessing it's been empty for some time before we checked in, as it was hot and the thermostat was set to 75.

The hallways are very, very dark. There are spiderwebs all over the walls when walking through the hallways. The bed is not comfortable, it feels very worn out.

Our room is near the laundry, pool, and bus though. I think I may call MS and try to get a room (resort) change so we're not stuck here for the next 3 nights. Thoughts? :confused3

Not to say your complaints are invalid but having just got of a Fantasy cruise where your every need is taken care of on a beautiful brand new ship where your room steward cleans the cabin two or three times a day, I think everything after that is going to seem inadequate. That is why we always do the parks first then the cruise! :thumbsup2

Sammie, beautiful pic! And i'll chime in as well about the hallways.. Hubby read this thread to me that the OP had ,and hubby says " now what is wrong with this post"? Right away I chimed in about the hallways! they are not dark, unless like someone said your walking around with sunglasses on in the hallways! They are pretty lit up! It really is quite a beautiful resort and to me it is just that..To us it has more of a resort feel to it than a hotel...beautiful grounds, our fav area is Congress Park..Especially,when you look out your balcony and see the waterview of DTD! Great pools, adaquate size food court (gotta love their buffalo flatbread )...This coming from someone who for 10yrs only stayed @ POR every yr! I thought I'd never grow to love it but I do! Its home!

Another SSR fan. We love OKW and SSR is so similar in the set up, other than the smaller villas. What's really wonderful about SSR is getting up early and taking a walk around the resort as it is just waking up. You see all sorts of wildlife, bunnies, birds and it is so quiet. Restful and relaxing.

If she's expecting that at the GF expect another complaint on the Resorts board..

GF seems to be of the view "we let riff raff stay in our hotel they shouldl be grateful and expect nothing" LOL!

I really like SSR but the distance between lobby and rooms is my only gripe. We have stayed in the area closest to DTD (Congress Park?) twice and love being able to walk over to DTD at night. The view of DTD at night is stunning!

how on earth are the hallways dark, they are outside, I can see maybe a little dark at night but not during the day...and if you say they are dark at night, well everything is dark at night, do you expect them to be lit up like a football field or something?

We have not stayed at SSR yet, we are booked for October. One of the things I liked about looking around the resort was the outside hallways (feels very "holidayish" to me) and I was worried that I had made a mistake when reading the OP and that the whole resort didn't have these so thankyou for others for reassuring me.

However a lot of people seem very keen to jump on and say that the OP is in someway wrong for expecting a clean and functional room in the first place. I don't expect perfection but you would find me complaining if I felt I was stuck in a dirty room that was obviously left empty whilst waiting for a refurb. DVC is not cheap and I expect a certain standard. However I wouldn't be complaining about a non-functioning outlet (which I presume is an electric socket?, Englishwoman here!) unless none of them worked or about a missing wire, I can live without an iPod dock.

An move to GF seems rather bizarre and not really something I would be keen on either, I prefer a more laid back pace and the extra space in my DVC rooms.

Yep

We have stayed at saratoga springs many times in the past 6 years
and love staying in congress park the walking paths are wonderful
Downtown Disney is a walk away and if you golf the golf course is right
there We find it very relaxing and have had really no problems with
the rooms.

Have to say, we just got home from SSR. We did a 2BR in the Paddock Area. We could not have been happier!!! In fact, would love to be there right now!!!

SSR is our home resort. We have stayed at many of the DVC resorts and at SSR many times.

We have had our share of rooms that are worn. Okay they don't look great but were clean. We have had rooms where the bathrooms weren't clean, bugs in the rooms. We have been moved numerous times.

I don't like the outside halls because of the spider webs that are full of bugs and after being in rooms for a week you think someone would use a broom and clean them out. We have seen garbage in the halls left by people sits for days. They must not know where the trash is but housekeeping wasn't cleaning up either.

I agree its a huge resort but they need a bigger staff to clean it if they can't do it and do it correctly and on the time they promise. Housekeeping Manager? I will say that I do think the grounds are lovely. The new pool and little food bar is a great addition to the resort and really needed. While I usually choose to stay other places we do wind up at SSR because it usally has availability.

That said we have had rooms at AKV Jambo house where there was so much dust on ceiling fan and in between furniture. I told them give me the stuff and I will clean. They did come in but the amount of dust was neglect not just the staff not cleaning it once.

The worst of worst was last summer at OKW in the rooms across from the Hospitality House.
I was given the royal treatment !!!!!!NOT

There was stuff on our towels and bathroom floor. It was the vent above the toilet blowing dust and dead spider hanging down. Also the light above the tub was full of bugs. Disgusting. Previous occupants left all their paperwork and billing info in night table drawer. Tons of spiders and bugs right above the door to the room. This was just plain neglect of the room. That didn't happen overnight. They did clean everything up but it made me think they aren't doing much other than dust, vacuum and make the beds.

They offered to move and we declined as it was our third resort:confused3:confused3:confused3:confused3 and we finally unpacked. I really would move next time.
