Live From Old Key West!!!!!

Good Morning everyone!

It's my turn to report that Old Key West is as beautiful as ever! Arrived on the magical express about 6;30 last night. We are in building 43 in a refurbed 2 bedroom lockoff! EVERYTHING is FABULOUS....the "ugly" tan sleeper chair is NOT ugly at all, the new hardwood floor "doesn't make lots of noise" unless you jump on it with tap shoes, and the "Uncomfortable" bed was made for a princess! Honestly folks...it's just lovely here!!!
We are here to celebrate our 2oth anniversary and dds 16th birthday. She brought her best friend who is BLOWN away by how gorgeous OKW is!
We have already received about 25 welcome homes along with our wakeup call from mickey and goofy!
Off to the Magic Kingdom this morning! Oh and did I mention, it is about 85 degrees at 6:30 am? We are from Maine and I have to say...it is NEVER 85 at 6:30 am in Maine!

First off, Happy Celebrations! Your excitement is contageous

I'm very happy to hear you love the renovations...they seem to have gotten more than a bit of a bad rap! Please take lots of pics of all the rooms and post them when you can.

Have a magical time and beat the midsummer heat as best you can...I follow the weather down there and the morning temperatures and humidity have been excessive even by Orlando standards!

Glad you like the renos, and the resort...OKW is so lovely. Since you so kindly offered to answer questions on your vacation, can you tell what area they are renovating now?

A quick question. Do you know or can you find out for me (I have sent an email to MS middle of last week and still no answer), now that the Resort Airline Check-in renovations are complete at OKW, is Southwest Airlines now included? Thank you so much and I am looking forward to more of your TR!

Have an amazing trip and so glad you got a lovely renovated villa! We are going in April 2010 and hoping for a nice newly refurbished 1 bed! Does anyone know what % of the resort is finished so far?

We just got back Sat from a week at OKW in a dedicated 2 BR, bldg 14, right across the street from HH. Had a great week, with no rain, highs in mid 90s everyday. Room was not yet renovated but in pretty good shape. There were only 5 of us so we had plenty of room. OKW is my second favorite resort next to my home at BCV.
Parks were not super crowded.

Was your wake up call a "normal" one, or an anniversary one? If it was a normal wake up call with Mickey and Goofy, that means they've gotten rid of Stitch-such good news! Or was it an anniversary call? We got three of them in April (yes, 3-something must have been confused with their computer) from Mickey and Minnie. It was so cute! I loved them singing "Happy anniversary to both of you..."

Time for R&R at the villa! Arrived at MK at 8:15 ish. Found a shady spot and managed to be among the the first to enter the kingdom at rope drop! We did tea cups (tradition started when DD spent her 1st BD at disney, she and dad ride the tea cups first things...), Space Mountain, Astro O, Buzz, Stitch, SpM again, Minnie's house, WDW railroad, splash mountain, pirates and had Pineapple floats...pretty good for a first morning. Walked the shops on Main Street and watched the Main Street Philharmonic band play some tunes! We're now cooling off since is it 92 with 80% hum..feels like 102! Heading to the pool (or bath water, I should say) then back to the MK for the night...EMH until 2am..this will be a first and not sure DH and I will make it, but the 2 girls will for sure!~

Thanks all of you for your great posts today! So fun to know others are reading at home, like I have for so many months!

They are working on Buildings 49 and 50 right now. It looks like Turtle Pond area is completed!

I will check at bell service to see if SWA is accepting check in yet and will let you know!!!


Oh and the frozen washcloths, neck coolers, mini mister fans and frozen water bottles ALLLLL helped us get through a super hot morning. No long lines. Longest wait was 28 minutes for splash. Otherwise 5-10 minute waits for everything!!

Okay, off to the pool. More later!

Great to hear your enjoying your trip!!

We'll be checking into OKW in 17 days so it's great to have some info on the rufurbs, crowd levels, weather, etc.

So glad you are enjoying your stay at OKW. It is our home resort. We have not stayed there since Jan of 2009. Last three trips we were in AKV and VWL. I did not like the mattresses at OKW, way too hard. I am hoping that for our trip in June of 11 they will be new ones with the refurbishment. DH and I will be at BWV in Oct and at AKV in Feb, but I do miss OKW. It is so relaxing there.
We were just up to Maine in June. Freeport, Kennebunkport. We love it up there. Last year we went to Bar Harbor that was also nice. It is a must do trip for us every summer. Love that lobster.

Well, flood warnings at the MK this evening but we went against the grain and went back while 1,000s of people fled the kingdom!!! We were able to do Snow White, Pooh, People mover, the fireworks, haunted mansionx2, and the Main St Electric Parade! Not bad...thunder mountain was down all night as was the jungle cruise! Sad to report that Fantasy Land is a tad depressing...walls up and ally ways to get into Pooh, I'd suggest doing it at night...it's a 'bit' more magical...
All in all, day one was tremendous. The two 15 year olds are off to bed, with instructions to sleep in!! Animal kingdom tomorrow, talk about hot....'

Thanks for update on buildings being worked on. We are hoping for a remodel room when we arrive in late sept. We think that we will be in build 19,20 or 21 since we have special request for accessible room. I can not see that they will be that far in remodel by that time. Hope you have a great vacation.

Hey everyone! It's fun to report live from OKW too! We were in the store yesterday and one of the cast members said "Hey, Mickey is on the phone for you...she handed us the phone and MIckey and the Gang sang """"Happy anniversary to you", so cute! Also had cards from the fab five left in the villa!!! we didn't make it till 2am at the mk as thunder and jungle cruise were down for emh. Saw the mseparade and fireworks...they were awesome!
Heading to the AK today. Girls slept in till 11 and had princess breakfast in bed cooked by dad!
Best tip yet from the boars...bring dishwasher nuggets to clean the hot tub...it needed a major cleaning before I used it this morning for a very relaxing time!!!!
