So, we're here at OKW. Our room is in pretty good shape. A few things were off, so we called to have them fixed: Floor lamp didn't work, phones were wired wrong and didn't work, we were missing a blanket....no big deal. We called and had them fixed/replaced.

BUT, THE KING-SIZED BED IS LIKE A ROCK! The mattress is just terrible. The sofa bed is way more comfortable than the king size bed. So, while we are between guests, we put DS in the king, and we're in the guest room where the beds are fine. We got egg crates delivered by mousekeeping for the weekend, but has anyone else noticed this?

What's really ironic is they have the brochure in our room for guests to buy all the "luxury" items like the mattresses and duvets and stuff.

Anyone else noticed this about OKW master bedrooms?

(So weather has very cold Tues & wED. Better today. Should be great for the weekend. Pretty crowded through Tuesday, actually. )

Oh now that I read this.......I remember that the king bed is VERY FIRM. We arrive Monday night. I remember it took me a couple of nights to get use to it. However I wouldn't say it is a serious concern.

When I stayed at BWV in October, I noticed the king was very firm. I like a firm bed but that one was a little too firm.

I like the firm king, I was very uncomfortable on the sofa sleeper at OKW in December. But I was not about to ask my 85 yo Mom to sleep on the couch ;)

However, call housekeeping, the may be able to put an egg crate foam mattress topper on the bed to soften it up a bit, if they have any in King size...you might be stuck with a queen sized topper.

We loved our King sized bed when we stayed at OKW. We loved EVERYTHING about OKW. We'll be headed back there probably next summer.

The firmness of mattresses is definitely a personal choice thing. We love a rock hard bed and ache all over if the mattress is too soft. We stayed once at Coronado Springs the night before a Disney cruise, and the bed was so soft we considered asking mousekeeping for a piece of plywood to put on top of it!

We also just love the hard beds at OKW :thumbsup2

Glad you're happy there otherwise :)

The thing is, we've been staying here since 96 and I've always been really comfortable in the king size.

we did get the egg crate toppers and that helped a lot.

BEAUTIFUL weather here today!!!!!!

I also loved the firm beds at OKW. I've never slept well away from home but I slept great there! My back never hurt at all. :thumbsup2

although great info about the egg crates as DH isn't as fond of a rock hard bed as I am. LOL

Okay, most of the posts were about how much they liked the beds at OKW, so I have to chime in that we thought the mattress was rock hard and we will NEVER stay at OKW again. Our villa apparently had a brand new mattress and it was like sleeping on a kitchen table hard. I hurt so much in the morning that I was literally in tears on the phone. (I have never been in tears at Disney before....but that's how little sleep I got and how much I hurt.) They had given us the teeny tiny egg crate the night before but that did absolutely nothing. The cast member was so nice and talked to me for quite a while to help me stop weeping and reassured me that they could do something to help. She had maintenance deliver a new pillowtop mattress in about an hour. We slept well from that night on.

Wow!

This is good to know!!! Next time I'll request a different mattress. We made do this time, but didn't rest all that well.

When I woke up the first night, all I could think was that prisoners laying on cold metal had a better sleeping surface!

Thanks for the info.

We love OKW, but agree that the king bed is too hard for us. After a week, we are ready to go home to our pillow top.

I agree the OkW king bed is HARD. I can sleep on anything though....it took me more time to get used to the "elephant" family that ran through their villa all day:confused3

My request is usually top floor....I don't care where...just to avoid that. I kept the ground floor at OKW....next time...I will "demand" to move to a higher floor.
Glad to hear that they brought a new mattress:thumbsup2 Gotta love Disney:goodvibes

I wonder why the OKW king sized beds are so hard? This is the first time in a dozen years of going there I felt the beds were too hard to sleep on.

Are these new mattresses? Are my bones just getting older and creakier in need of more cushioning??

I'm so glad someone mentioned this. I had looking forward to our OKW 2bed back in September but the mattress was so bad that DH and I agreed we could not return to that resort again! We had never slept so horribly on vacation before. It was a real deal-breaker for us. I am not a happy person to be around when I don't get enough sleep--even on vacation!

I'm planning to write a letter....Maybe you could as well if you get a chance? They need to hear that those beds are now so hard that they are impacting people's vacation choices.

The engineers that came to replace my ROCK HARD mattress confirmed that we had a BRAND NEW mattress. I guess we would have been better off if a room full of kids had jumped on the thing before we got the unit. :goodvibes They said that a lot of people like the really hard bed which was a surprise to me. I have back problems so I like a firm bed, but in no way would I want to sleep on a table top and call it a mattress....my bones didn't like it. :sad2:

We stayed at OKW in August 2007 and didn't have any problem with the bed. DH slept late every day!

we were at VWL last week but had dinner at Olivia's the same day you wrote your note about it being cold. Cold? Cold, you say? It was FREEZING for two days. Low 20's at night and Wednesday it was 24 with the wind chill.

of course the dead I headed up north it was 75 at WDW. That's my luck.
