We checked in around 2:00. Got a great room this time. In Live Oak Lodge with a great water view. We rode over to beach and walked a little bit - but it is very windy and a little cool today, so we didn't walk long. Sat by pool at Beach House and drank beer ($5.50 ouch). Now back in room. I'm on balcony posting via new iPad and DW is reading (you wouldn't believe the stack of books she brought). Plan is to eat at Old Oyster Factory for supper. I have to be mighty careful though because Diabetes has been acting up during last couple of weeks and I've just got it under control. Hopefully there will be some Diabetic friendly food on menu.

Plan for next four days is me follow golfers around in Verizon Heritage Golf Tournament while DW relaxes around resort. Plan to follow Jim Furyk and Bill Hass around tomorrow.

Oh I am soooo excited to hear that the Old Oyster Factory is still around. We haven't been to Hilton Head since 1995 but now that we own DVC we are hoping to visit next year.

Have a great trip. Keep us posted! :thumbsup2

You have a great time! There are some good names playing in the Heritage this year. Enjoy the Old Oyster (we call it the Red Roof Inn); LOVE it!

Hope you both have a lot of fun. The Heritage is a great tournament.

Please keep us posted. We won't be at HHI until Thanksgiving, so until then these trip reports keep me feeling a little close to our beloved HHI. We almost always have a villa in the Lodge. Where exactly are you? What resturants are you eating at this week? Have a cranberry nut cookie for me!

Thursday morning update -

We had a great dinner last night at Old Oyster Factory. I had some really great Tilapia and DW had steamed shrimp. We started off with Oysters Savannah that were delicious. After dinner we just rode around the island some, exploring some areas we'd never been to before. We ended up at Barnes and Noble for some coffee before heading back to room. I tell you, we really do think of HHI as our second home; much more so than WDW. DW and I have discussed it and the older we get the more I can see us mainly using our points here at HHI and only going to WDW every few years. I just wish all our points were here, making it easier to get reservations.

I plan on heading over to Sea Pines shortly to watch the golf tournament. Since you can't take cell phones into the tournament I told DW I'm not sure when she will see me later on. I plan on following Jim Furyk around and his t-time is 1:10. DW plans on spending the day laying around the pool and reading.

Not sure what plan is for supper tonight. Probably go to Hudsons though.

About my iPad - I absolutely love this little device. It works great - fast, easy to use and it has basically replaced my regular computer. It is working great with the WiFi here at the resort.

Oh, I never reported about our room (a studio). We are on second floor of lodge looking out over the water. No problems with room except for my two usual complaints - TV is too small and the couch is very uncomfortable to sit on. DW says the problem with the couch is the back cushions are too big giving a very small sitting area that is very slick. Her solution has been to take cushions off and put pillows there.

We'll watch for you on TV. Following Jim Furyk, I'm sure we'll be able to pick you out in the crowds!:rotfl2: DH is a big golf fan, and we've thought of going to HHI to see the tournament. How crowded is the island in general? And is it true that you have to park up by the entrance of Sea Pines, then be bused down to the tournament, or can you drive down to Harbourtown? And I'm just curious, how do they check for cell phones-do they pat you down or have a security place, like the airport, or expect golfers to be trustworthy? And the other thing I'm curious about-are you following Jim Furyk because he's your favorite one there, or is there another reason you chose him? Keep having fun and giving us reports when you can. Watch out for the "ejecto-couch"!

So glad you are happy with your room and had a nice meal last night. Hope you continue to have a wonderful time in beautiful HHI!:goodvibes

Actually the island itself doesn't feel that crowded. Last night at OOF we didn't have to wait at all. Now Harbour Town is a different matter. It is a zoo down there right now and the course was packed with people. Yes, you do park up by the entrance to Sea Pines, but they have busses that take you to HT and let's you off at the marina. You then walk over to the golf course. They said no cell phones but they weren't checking. It would be impossible, just too many people. I was going to follow Furyk around just because I like him. I ended up following John Daly around instead. I'm back at resort now, relaxing out by pool. I figured four days is a lot of golf, and I had better pace myself.

LOL! But according to DH, there's never TOO MUCH golf. And what better place to recuperate than around the pool at HHI. Thanks for the report! I thought the whole island might be crowded during the tournament, but it sounds like we just need to avoid Sea Pines. Do they charge you to park and take the bus down to Sea Pines? That sounds great about OOF not being crowded. In all our trips to the island we've never been there, but heard great things about it. Let us know about crowds (or lack of them) at any other resturaunts. And don't overdo it and tire yourself out at the pool!

I'm glad you are posting; DH and I are going to be there in 2 weeks for our anniversary so your updates are great to hear! We will also be in a studio and mainly plan to wander, eat and lounge. :cool1:

About parking - if you get the grounds pass or the clubhouse pass, you don't have to pay the $5 parking.

On the grounds pass, is that free parking for a one day grounds pass or do you have to buy a pass for the 4 days in order to get the free parking? Were the buses to go back from the marina up to parking pretty regular? Or do they at least run on a schedule? Hopefully tonight's dinner will be just as uncrowded as last night. At least Hudson's is far away from Sea Pines (well, far away by HHI standards).

You can't buy just a one day pass, only full tournament passes. The buses were lined up in the morning and filled up pretty quickly. Coming back the driver left when he was about half full. We changed our minds about dinner and ended up eating at Salty Dog. But again no crowds at all. They were only about half full. Not sure where the crowds are. It sure was crowded at the tournament.

BTW - I used my pass to get us back in for dinner.

Thursday 8:45 -

Just back from a walk around the resort and marina. The noseeums are out big time. We saw them at the Salty Dog, but they are worse here and man they sure can bite. Back to Salty Dog - I had Shrimp and Grits and DW had Seafood Pot Pie. Both were delicious though large portions - we both brought half home.

Plan for tomorrow - I'm going back to golf tournament and DW is relaxing around pool some more. Man it's a tough life being retired :).

Have you had good luck with the wireless connection? The last time I was at HHI the wireless in the public areas had a poor signal.

The signal was okay down in the Den this morning and at the pool. I did notice the pool connection was from one of the adjacent buildings rather than the pool area. The only problem I've noticed is with my iPad and also with our iPhones, it asks us to re-enter our pass codes every time we turn our devices on. Kind of a pain.
