Little Tikes yard sale pricing..

I think Little Tikes go for more money at garage sales in MN. I would be beside myself with excitement if I found one of those little coupes for less than $15. No way would I sell that wagon for less than $20 and I would probably start it at $25.

I notice that another poster from MN priced her LT truck at $15, too. And in the meantime, you East coast folks are paying $10 an hour for babysitters according to another thread! Raise your garage sale prices and be able to afford the babysitter! :p

I sold 2 of my Little Tikes cars on Ebay. One was the Cozy Coupe deluxe and the other was the one with the handle for the parent that removed as well as the floorboard. I listed them as pick-up only in my auction and the same lady bought the both of them for about $46.00, I believe. We met at my workplace and that was that. Very easy and I got more for them that way than if I would have sold them at my garage sale.

Jkanownik -- I also found your "sarcastic" post to be offensive. When it's reasonable to do so, I purchase second-hand toys and clothing for my children (and myself). This not only saves money, but it reduces unnecessary additions to our very limited landfills and teaches children about the value of a dollar.

As a result of our "buying used philosophy" and many other little financial choices, my 6 and 9 year olds live in a mortgage-free, large house in an established neighborhood and have fully-funded college accounts. Since we have no debt, we are able to afford many weekend family trips; provide our girls with opportunities to attend basketball camp, scout camp, and horseback riding lessons; and other things with real lasting value. Our retirement accounts have taken some hits lately because of the stock market's downturns, but I don't expect my children will be forced to support us in their old age. Few people would rationally look at the stability we have provided for our children and say, "Yes, I'd trade that for a shiney kitchen and slide" -- especially because my girls HAD all those things and more (in the used form, purchased for $10 or so).

Please don't belittle a very valid choice.

I'm sorry that you found my post to be offensive. Maybe you should have read over the entire thread more thoroughly. I work for Little Tikes. I was joking. In my first post I did not mention any other toys, besides Little Tikes. Then after some people expressed that they were a little offended by my original post I explicitly stated that there was nothing wrong with buying used toys. It is also obvious from my posts that I don't have a problem with people selling or buying used toys because I was offering advice on how to do so most effectively.

It is wonderful that you are able to live debt free, but it seems to me that you need to lighten up a bit and takes things less seriously. Even those with the most comfortable of lives cannot be truly happy without a sense of humor.

JKanownik--sometimes its hard to see tongue in cheek humor on the web since everything is black and white here. I did think it was kind of a strong statement when I saw it but then you said just kidding so then everyone knew you were j/k. So personally I never gave it a second thought. I buy used toys and I buy new toys, whatever works, lol.

JKanownik,

I knew from your past posts that you were a very nice person and must have been kidding. I got it. Does Little tikes make any of their toys in Ohio still or are they all made overseas? I used to live in the Falls and remember that some of those companies (Little tykes/ Rubbermaid) were moving their production elsewhere. Just curious.

We have one yard sale big wheel that every kid in the neighborhood loves. It's the best $15 purchase I ever made.

Thanks momof2inPA. It's funny how many people on the boards have lived around here.

About 40% of Little Tikes toys from a dollar perspective are made entirely in China (basically all of the small stuff). The new Hummer H2 battery operated ride on that just came out is made in Mexico. All of the traditional Little Tikes toys (Cozy Coupes, Playhouses, Climbers, Tables and Slides) are still made in Hudson, OH and will never be moved overseas because it simply isn't cost effective.

Rubbermaid on the other hand shut down their headquarters in Wooster. They had union employees there and the union was unwilling to negotiate reasonable wages. That was actually good news for us because they have been consolidating a lot of operations in our plant.

I think the price of the items at yard sales is definetly influenced by your geographic location. I live in an area that is extremely mixed in incomes. We live right on Lake Erie. There are multi-million $$ mansions right on the lake and directly across from their estate driveways are roads w/ houses that were once cottages that value at no more than $15-20,000. The point is we have an extremely mixed community as far as income levels go. The toy boxes about $5-7, the red coupe car $5-10, even the little slide/outdoor play sets don't get more than $10-15 (for $15 it has to be like brand new all around). Now, I'm sure in some areas you could get double that easily on these items. I went to a dozen or so yard sales today (season is just starting around here). I seen a really nice Little Tikes Jungle Gym just sitting there great shape-- the seller wanted $25 for it firm. Really worth it-- the thing probably retailed for $150ish. But it just won't sell for that price around here.

We have a daycare going out of business that is having an open sale this coming week. They advertised 100+++ Little Tikes items, nothing over $20!!!!

JKanownik -- Having read the whole thread, I did understand your post was a failed attempt at humor. If you knew me, you'd know that I have plenty of faults but a need to lighten up isn't amongst them. This post just definitely struck me wrong.

What price would you put on a Little Tykes castle with slide? This particular model is at least 6-8 years old, is in good conidtion, and is larger than the ones they have in the stores right now.

Failed?? Failed attempt at humor - I think NOT!! I was literally :rotfl: :rotfl: at your first post. I caught the humor right away - when I saw the next post, the pieces fit in!!:D Thanks for the great laugh and smile! We need more people like you here!!::yes::

My two children are now teens - but when they were younger - we bought tons of Little Tike stuff - brand new!! And then we yard saled it!!

I hope to see more of your humor - come on over to the Community Board - we don't bite --------- much!!;)

Okaaaay. My husband works for a Union and I knew that the employees wanted livable wages, but no, their wages would not be able to compete with those of China and Mexico. Don't fault the people in the union for wanting to live decent lives. I personally fault our trade policies, but that's another subject entirely.

Despite our difference in opinions, yours being entirely youthful and wrong, you still seem like a nice person. The "youthful and wrong" part is just kidding, can you tell?

I have had my eye on e-bay because I had been looking for one of the older little tikes tool workbench. they dont make them anymore-the one I want.

That's funny. I have a little tikes workbench that I want to get rid of. The kids have never played with it, and I have no young nephews to whon I could give it . What does the one you want look like?

I sold that exact wagon last year for $25.00. I sold a sand box (fisher price) for 25.00 and the lady bug (little tikes??) for $10.00. Little Tikes sell great around here, I wish I had some more. We had a playset that 3 people actually came the night before to buy, I told them to come back at 9:00 and one lady got here at 7:45, I got $75.00 for it (it was originally like 350.00 or so). My car I sold for $15.00 (floorboard missing). I am keeping my Country Cottage bed and have the table & chairs too. One chair actually broke at the leg after 6 mos and I contacted Little Tikes who informed me I could not get a refund without a receipt....I wish I could find one chair so I would have the entire set (it is so cute!). Good luck with your sale.

I recognize that unions have served a very important cause in our nation and they continue to serve a valid purpose in many cases. And you are right about trade policies being to blame for much of the manufacturing outsourcing that is occuring. However, in this case the blame falls squarely on the union (although a little tornado helped to force the matter). I could go into a long spiel about resin prices, Wal-Mart and Sterilite, but it is not needed. Some of the same products that were made in the Rubbermaid factory in Wooster, OH are now made just an hour away in the Little Tikes factory in Hudson,OH. The only difference between the two factories is union vs. non-union employees. And the non-union employees at Little Tikes make good wages for a manufacturing job in Ohio.

Ooooh! I love that workbench! When I directed a child care center, we had one in our toddler room and the little boys practically lived in that corner of the room! I have a little Little Tikes toolbench that I love too because it is smaller than those other ones therefore takes up less space in my house. However, by about 4 they outgrow it and I think the bigger one would be more fun at that point. Hmmmm, maybe you'll have some competition for that toolbench! Just kidding! I would think the shipping would be horrendous!

You guys all got me thinking that maybe I will ebay my Little Tikes stuff instead of garage saleing it.

toystoryduo,

Your Castle Playhouse w/ Slide is in high demand on Ebay. It's been going anywhere from $130 up to as much as $330. I definitely wouldn't try selling it at a yard sale. Ebay is definitely the way to go with that one.

ceecee,

Even though you can't get a free replacement chair from Little Tikes without a receipt, you should be able to buy a single chair if you really wanted one. There aren't any other Little Tikes products that use a blue chair like that, so I don't think you'll be able to find a single chair at a yard sale. One thing to note about those chairs is that even though they exceed current safety standards for tipping, the government safety regulations are changing next year and they do not pass. The chairs are by no means a serious safety issue, but it is something to consider as a parent.
